Totally embarrassing for the country as a whole.
With the world looking on and wondering why Antiguans running for their handouts of turkeys and ham, yet their are many who are still awaiting their wages; overtime; pensions; severance payments, and also long overdue backpay.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne thinks these turkey and ham handouts will appease the people, and not realising they would much prefer money in their pockets.
Maybe (and maybe not) these food handouts worked in the past, but the sight of fellow Antiguans running behind these trucks ah beggy beggy, is a terrible global look.
It makes the country look like paupers.
SOMETHING THAT GASTON SEEMS TO ENJOY…
Its a political tradition….whatever Party in Power look forward to the giving of Ham and Turkey. The UPP enjoyed 10 years of the tradition…now it’s ABLP time to spread some Christmas 🎄 joy.
So let the good times roll until 2028 ….when the UPP will have their chance…there is nothing like a well cooked HAM….are you an Adventist…Brixtonian?
@Dexter Pelle…of course, “it’s a tradition” used by both political parties, to recruit and indoctrinate fodder and customers for their #BRANDS.
It’s the same means and methods used by #BRAND_NAME_RELIGIONS, at this time of the year to do their mass recruitings and indoctrinations for their fodder and customers.
It’s simply, a business concept used by church & state to advance their very profitable businesses with inducements/giveaways, to those living #hand_to_mouth!

Oh Brix…get off you high horse…its a political tradition.
Was it any different 2004-2014? Nah!
Each year this time the party in power spread a little Christmas cheers…and the people love it…whether they dressed in Blue or Red… UPP had their 10 years…now ABLP having their time….so let the Ham and Turkey roll.
There is nothing like a well cooked!
Are you a vegetarian or an Adventist…Brixtonian?
No @ Dexter Pelle, I am not a “vegetarian” or an “Adventist” as you would like to think, but I am a realist and recognise that Antiguans are a worth a lot more than turkeys and hams (and hospitality sector workers, I may add).
As a well travelled Antiguan, I’ve broadened my my mindset and my horizons totally, and recognise that by not being cocooned and insular in my thinking, I am much aware of how politics and politicians can brainwash their own inhabitants.
Two cases in point:
The UK left the very profitable European Union, losing Billions in the process, and key – educated – workers to help their economy flourish; yet the majority of their citizens agree with these wanton destructive measures.
Case two:
Antiguans continues to struggle with low wages; no wages; inconsistent pension payments; high fuel prices; an economy with rising inflation; and no accountability for financial transactions like CIP and NAMCO.
But NOT to worry folks, TRADITIONAL Christmas food giveaways will suffice though.
NO WONDER THE WORLD LAUGHS AT US …
A Turkey giving away Turkeys.
Like TUNA vex it’s Ham and Turkey time…
Maybe PM should at Wild Caught TUNA to the list next Christmas 🎄….or TUNA can wait until 2028 to get on the list!
What say you TUNA?
@ Dexter Pelle
Gaston really know how to treat us Antiguans low life.
We mean nothing to him but a ham and turkey and our votes.
Will that overcome our hardship over the last few years with Covid and the Cost of Living crisis? No, but he’s adding more financial stress on us with increased ABST.
I won’t feel sorry for us and please don’t beg me for nothing.
@Brixtonian.
This is truly an embarrassing sight to behold. The bar has been set very low and will not be raised any time soon. Sad to say, those at the top of the feeding trough salve their conscience with these annual handouts, they feel good in themselves knowing they have a loyal pool of supporters who enjoy this annual ritual. Who is is paying for all this, I wonder? After all there is no such thing as a free lunch. Creative ham and turkey, followed by even more creative pork and chicken. Cameras roll, Antigua should roll over in embarrassment.
To tell you the truth @ oversee, reading some of the negative comments, I am not surprised why Antigua & Barbuda are still in the doldrums.
But to be fair, if I was also marooned in my country of birth and didn’t broaden my mindset to other cultures and a different way of living by constant European, Caribbean and US travel, then I myself might have lined up for Gaston’s hams and turkeys.
I ENJOY THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX – I’VE NEVER FOLLOWED THE CROWD. NEVER!!!
@BRIXTONIAN
What the hell are you talking about ….It shows that BRIXTONIAN is a very BORING , Lack Joy in His heart and don’t care about others. This is Christmas and sharing is a virtue from the ALMIGHTY. You are a mean SPIRITED person BRIXTONIAN.. Shame on you.
@brixtonian you sound stupid. A ham and turkey is no different than your office giving you a gift card for 25.00 to a grocery store at Thanksgiving.
It’s tradition and will never stop. If a ham and turkey could buy Antiguans then you obviously don’t know my countrymen. GTFOH. We are proud and grateful to the PM for his generosity and commitment to continuing the tradition in these very trying times.
Speak for yourself you ingrate blow hard.
“We are proud and grateful to the PM for his ‘generosity’ …”
Of course you are @ Prime Ministers pet (an apt moniker, by the way), of course you are. Said like a true Gastonite, that’ll accept any deflectionary tactics from Antigua’s reality.
I AM NOT SURPRISED IN THE SLIGHTEST
@Brixtonian, there goes Giles again. Name calling and mudslinging clown that he is.
Why not pay people their backpay, overtime and all outstanding monies owed? That way, people can buy their own damn ham and turkey and some of the revenue goes back into the government coffers.
This Hitler mustache looking dunce thinks people are impressed with this beggarly show of cheer. How pathetic this is! Historically, ALP supporters are that way. Beggy- beggy, semi illiterate and incapable of reasoning beyond grade 4 level. So sad.
As a UPP Member We don’t want you around the party. You are sounding stupid by the day. I hope that you are a single person. I pity persons like you BRIXTONIAN with a family. You are a mean person. Ham and turkey is a tradition in Antigua at Christmas. So shut up.
@ Mira
Obviously you’re NOT a UPP member. You are nothing but A FAKE.
Leave Brixtonian alone. He is right. Antiguans are low and are abused by the ABLP ever so often.
… Btw, let’s see how we react afterwards, to what’s happening to our economy and the country 🇦🇬 once all these turkeys and hams have been consumed.
YUM, YUM, YUMMY … 😋
Remember, when Brixtonian states the true FACTS, the ABLP acolytes and Gastonites REACTS. Nice!

POINT FAMILY RECEIVES NEW HOME FROM GOVERNMENT
There has been an early Christmas present for a family in the Point community, which just a few weeks ago was traumatized by a dog attack on one of its youngest members.
Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for St John’s City West, Hon. Gaston Browne spearheaded the collaborative effort which made it possible for a newly-built home to be handed over Monday morning.
We call this the yuletide season. A time for giving. To whom much is given much is expected.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
It is clear that some of you are jealous of a cheerful giver. And the sad thing here is we always have to attack the politicians. if they give they are buying vote, and if they don’t give they are cheap and greedy. But let us not pay them no mind in this joyful season of giving. Even children expect that their parents would be giving them some present of some sort. Every employee is looking at what their employer will give them for Christmas. And the poor in the many homes such as Fiennes are looking forward to things they will be getting this Christmas.
I hope that God will put it in many hearts this Christmas to give and give with a cheerful heart. The PM is leading the way and may all others follow.
… And here again is @ From The Sideline quoting the ABLP’S government mouthpiece the ABS, as if that’s any independent body or official guidance
NO SURPRISE ONCE AGAIN … 😲
@Brixtonian December 19, 2023 At 12:29 pm
Since you do not give any credit to ABS for carrying the news un-bias here is a link from this very website.

Top man Sidey👍🏾, you are making strides in taking GREAT advice from Brixtonian, regarding independent news outlets. Just Marvellous … mek me go sit dong boss 😁
The PM not giving shit. Is he paying from his own pocket or is this an offset.
Indeed @Brixtonian. I have not watched ABS in almost ten years. Another ALP propaganda machine. Ham and turkey is an ALP tradition, not an Antiguan one.
As I said before, Laborites are mostly semi-illiterate, unable to decipher truth from fiction. Freebs is a way of life with them. So sad how they run behind the trucks trying to get as much as they can not realizing how quickly reality will set in come January.
This is how low this failed experiment has relegated Antiguans and Barbudans. Kiss the a$$ of the white man, give him all kinds of ridiculous tax breaks, allow them to withhold taxes without pursuing them, then hand out ham and turkey to the citizens and squeeze them to alleviate his incompetence.
You can’t make this stuff up. What a people!
We have not watched ABS in nearly 10 years also.
