Prime Minister Gaston Browne responds to Richard Lewis

Prime Minster Gaston Browne wrote on Facebook: Open response to Richard Lewis.

Min of Works took custody of these buildings located on Friars Hill Rd, rent free in 2021.  The Lessor (If), gave notice to one its retail tenants and a storage tenant to vacate a portion of the building, resulting in loss of revenue.

Ministry of Works rents from all and sundry irrespective of their political affiliation.  When ever the government rents a building, the leasehold improvements are paid for by the government and the the monthly rent for building is also payable.

In this case, IF, rented the building for $1.00 monthly $12 per year.  The commercial rent would have been in the region of $70K monthly (84K) @ $5 per square foot, which is the standard rental rate that government government pays.

2.5 years later, the ministry still enjoys rent free occupancy of the building; significantly exceeding the costs of the improvements.

The lessor evidently has not benefited from any revenue from the government; but instead lost revenues from the previous rentals.

Richard, the government has been the beneficiary of a rent free space for 2.5 years and continuing.

Where is the legal, ethical or moral violation Richard ?

  1. When you were paid $1.5M by the UPP administration, of which you were an executive member, to publish a third rate IT text book; what do you call that Richard ? Cronyism ?

Why didn’t you go through the tender process for the contract; recognizing that all contracts over $20K had to go to tender ?

Despite your chicanery; Pringle shall defeat you. You are seeking spotlight for your convention contest, but your efforts shall fail.

You’re not ready !

Infact, Michael Joseph will defeat you. In the unlikely event you become the UPP leader,  You will be yet another UPP leader who loses his seat.  😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You’re not ready !

  1. @ Gaston Brown

Just like you would have won all 17 seats in the last General elections of 2023.
You and the woman beater Michael Joseph can go and fire r u self.
Trying to justify your corruption won’t work.

  2. Who the hell let Government rents free of cost such as the PM stated? Shut up Richard, First Son obviously is the most patriotic Antiguan. My God, Antigua and Barbuda obviously need a lot more folks like him. Nice try getting down into UPP internal politics. Been exposed to red all of my life, this surely is a different level.

  3. Richard Lewis is seeking RELEVANCE. Hon. Gaston Browne I hope you will sue Richard Lewis for defamation. He is a loser. Richard is a one term MP. He will never win again. Pringle should sit back and laugh because He has the safest seat in UPP. Richard the Clown.

    • What an over reaction @ Giles, it seems that you recognise that the Honourable Richard Lewis is going to be the Prime Minister’s achilles heel.

YOU SOUND VERY TROUBLED GILES 🤔

      • You are so generous to@ Giles.
He thinks a Member of Parliament is seeking relevance. He thinks the member of Parliament is a clown. Doesn’t that sound Gastonian?
Go low when he can’t defend his actions.
He won a seat in Parliament, but he is looser.
He will never win again for Gaston is planning to steal the election.

    • Gaston is trying to stay relevant. It’s almost like we have a modern day Hitler as Prime Minister. Soon from now the rent going to be 30k a month like his son’s salary

  4. Richard Lewis has always been the Prime Minister’s bane since his entrance into the political arena, and it will take a great deal of financial support, charitable and community donations for Mr. Joseph to defeat Mr. Lewis who has always been present and visible in the St. John’s Rural West constituency. The question is will uninformed and uneducated electorate be voting for Mr. Michael Joseph and his mandate for the community or ABLP’s greasing their outstretched palms?

Still waters run deep, but not deeper than an Antiguan politician’s pockets. Hopefully I will still be alive to witness the outcome of the next general election.

    • @ I know I know NOTHING
“The question is will the uninformed and uneducated electorate be voting for Mr. Michael Joseph and his mandate for the community or ABLP’s greasing their outstretched palms?

Still waters run deep, but not deeper than an Antiguan politician’s pockets. Hopefully I will still be alive to witness the outcome of the next general election.”

SO, MY QUESTION TO YOU IS:

Are you acusing one side of allegedly greasing the hands of constituents? Hmmmm, did you read Dr. Cleon Athill’s reasons for being treated as an outcast, leading to her subsequent resignation?
I guess you’re not paying attention, for convenience sake. But, carry on.

      • Dave Ray, I remember you as a young vibrant lad during Pastor Mills tenor at Central Baptist Church, oh how you could sing. I commend you on your life’s accomplishments and to answer your question, no, I am not accusing it is a known fact, a tradition even to buy favor of the electorate.

I am too old and too tired to defend either party be they UNDP/UPP, ALP/ABLP. Based off of my reading your consistent defense of the governing party on this forum I see you can still sing very well. I wish you well sir.

  5. The dutty mudslinging has started by the nasty and bad-minded Prime Minister. No surprise there then; but what I will say is the PM’S reaction to the Honourable Richard Lewis is very very similar to when Kelvin Shugy Simon also took Gaston Browne to task, and went on to win a by-election and reinstated to Parliamentary debates.

Gaston can’t tek opponents that go toe to toe wid he!

We must ask ourselves why the PM prefers to take on Jamale Pringle rather than the two aforementioned Honourable UPP members.

    I SMELL FEAR AND DISQUIETUDE

  6. The question is @Gaston Browne, PM, where is the logic, in having several departments within the government which designs, builds, maintains buildings; yet, the government keeps renting commercial space(s) from private citizens and companies?
    Where does this make sense?
Yes, it happened during the UPP Administration control of the government, but it don’t make no sense!

As the saying goes, ‘two wrongs don’t make a right!”

It simply boils down to PPM – Piss Poor Management of the People’s money.

    • @Ras Smood. He himself was a beneficiary under UPP when APUA rented South Mall. But this is something very different. Everything seems so set up to benefit a few individuals. If anyone believes that kindness is the motivating factor for this move, I have an iceberg to sell them. So let’s not be fooled. This is a move to make money and all this talking is just to mask the real intentions

      • @Zackie and Charles Tabor…you’re both staunch UPP supporters, no doubt!
You both know, that what has transpired, is transpiring and most likely will continue to transpire, the poor management, of the public money, in some ways by both the UPP and ABLP has to be better managed, and accounted for.
You @Zackie mentioned, an agreement between Gaston and APUA, under the UPP [ruling arm of] the government.
Tabor has mentioned SHARE, Inc., some private/public partnership management by the ABLP [ruling arm of] the government.
Now, Richard Lewis the next leader of the UPP is questioning, the legality or something of the sort, of IF, and its board of directors or DIRECTOR.

Again, here’s my take on some of this, as in the building(s) and their environs. I’m not an attorney, an economist, and the likes. I’m involved in buildings and their environs, agriculture too, by being #hands_on. My gifted skill is carpentry, but from a baby crawling around my grandparents, on farms and watching them create things with their hands(minds too, no doubt), to presently creating green spaces(bee gardens to community gardens/parks), this private/public partnership, and let me repeat, this private/public partnership managed by both sides of the aisle when they’re the RULING ARM, of the government MUST be constantly tweaked, adjusted, overhauled to meet the time(s) which HUEmans are living in.
In this day and age, the Nation MUST have better management and accountability, of its resources because, just like tools, equipments and materials are here to build more resilient buildings and communities, to take us into the future, there are tools, resources and materials to do the same in business management, especially when it comes to the PEOPLES MONEY!

I still can’t get pass the Government has a Ministry of Works from designers to maintenance managers, and we don’t have at least a Community of Office Complexes owned by the Government.
Gaston Browne, PM was being BRAGGADOCIOS about his accomplishments in twenty five years in politics, and what he has left as a legacy, where is THE PEOPLES COMPLEX.

The courts are using community centers.
Police stations are just now being renovated to some degree.
Fire departments are needed around the Nation.

But again first off, and this is to Charles Tabor, the attorney. Regardless of what is said about the Barbudans, they’ll take their chances in the Courts.
UPP must begin to utilize the Courts more, to get answers. They, the UPP had a great start with the IHI – Lindquist Inquiry. Some faction of the then Ruling Arm of the government, the UPP for #cold_feet. I wonder why?

It appears, as if Richard Lewis, MP is ready to take the fight to the #Bullies! Let him!

  7. In normal countries what transpired with the SHARE Charity that was headed by Maria Browne, the wife of the Prime Minister, and what has now transpired with IF Inc. owned by Andron Browne, the Prime Minister’s son, would have been frowned upon because of the nepotism and appearance of corruption. Donald Trump as President of America could not allow people doing business with the US government to stay at his Trump Tower in Washington. In Antigua anything goes. Richard Lewis’ textbook example cannot be compared to my two previous examples of family and governance impropriety. In any case, the fundamental question is how did his son through his company IF Inc. became the owner of the buildings on Friars Hill Road. By the way, his son is the sole director and shareholder of IF Inc. and not a group of investors as the Prime Minister indicated to our Parliament.

  8. So tell us the COST to the government for the improvements. Since you know that the rents exceeds the cost of the improvements — then you must know the cost of said improvements.
Tell the Antiguan tax payers how much of their monies (in $$) were paid to fix up your son’s building. That’s the question the tax payers wants an answer to.

    • In Antigua there is phenomena called known as the 7 days news cycle.

Antiguans accept it as a way of life. This will blow over soon like most issues of national significance and everyone moves on to the next issue.

Those who are in a position to force the Prime Minister to answer don’t care, for they are getting their piece of what’s in the pork barrel. The last thing they want to do is to upset the pork barrel.

VC Bird Sr. mantra when the dogs bark the donkey moves on. Right now, what we have are Antiguan barking dogs as Gaston the donkey moves on.

  9. The same people who condemn Trump for the wrong he does support Fraudston clown brown for the wrong he does and say the wrong is right

  10. Assuming I F(lip) Antigua is a private company, how is it that Gaston Browne has such intimate knowledge of the company’s inner workings? Oh yes … nepotism. It was the same thing with Share Foundation (nepotism, again) and Global Bank (cronyism).

  11. Gaston, it certainly looks as if you are caught in a lie.

The issue at hand is: You said the buildings were owned by a group and your son was A PART OF THE GROUP.

The documents being circulated are showing that YOUR SON IS THE SOLE DIRECTOR AND SHAREHOLDER OF IF INC. AND NOT A GROUP OF INVESTORS.

Your words cannot be trusted and you are shown to the world to be a liar (and that is the least).

I am of the opinion that you are guilty of misbehavior in public office, but hopefully, you will face the music in the future.

  12. I 1000% agree with the PM

RICHARD YOUR NOT GONNA WIN LEADER OF THE UPP

    YOU MALICIOUSLY POSTED THOSE LETTERS
TO MAKE IT SEEM ALL IS AGAINST PRINGLE
BUT YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED MORE THAN THAT TO WIN LEADER OF UPP

PRINGLE NEEDS WORK INTERNAL WORK BUT TOU RICHARD FEEL TOU BRIGHT

    HAROLD
    BLADWIN
    GISELLE
ELECTORAL COMMITTEE ALL HAS MORE SAY THAT YOUR SO CALLED SIGNATURES

THIS IS WHAT KEEPS UPP FROM EVER MOVING FORWARD….. DISLOYALTY and Public bitchin

    • @ You should never ever be LEADER OF UPP

So say you who are holding the hands of the 24 selected delegates from each of the constituencies. You sound like an IGNORAMUS.

  13. This is a feeble attempt to cover the outrageous lies he told in Parliament about the ownership of the property in question. Whether Mr. Lewis wins the Primary or regains his seat is not the subject here, so please do some comprehension and let us know the truth. By the way; when is the ALP’s long-awaited CONVENTION?

  14. Seems to me that Gaston has issues with Richard Lewis being paid 1.5m for his text book. If it were your government, the text book would be purchased from a non Antiguan and we all know the price would be doubled because of one of you getting a commission. What do you know about computers and IT to saying the textbook was third grade? Sometimes I wish you would just shut up when nobody ask you anything and you know nothing. You appear to hate to see Antiguans, outside of you and your son make money. They call this bad mind.
Are you the same people who belittle Pringle and are now praising him over Richard Lewis? You are nothing but a charlatan.

  15. He didn’t have a problem with the ebook scandal, but have a problem with the IT books. That’s the problem we have we putting politics in front of the truth

  16. Yes, Tabor.
Noticed certain things the Dawg did not address in his little tantrum.
Keep on mashing his toes, Richard.

  17. Just a simple question.

What does the former Swiss American Bank, Global Bank, CUB and ABLP all have in common?

Your answer should tell you how to make your vote really count. If you love your country and want a better life for yourselves, your families and your generations of families to come, vote for the person who works for you and the people of this country.

If you want this country to become like Haiti, don’t change a damned thing.

Our country needs a government that works for the people. Anything less than that is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

  18. The LIAT (2020) rip off is 100 times bigger than the IF company and DCA rip of which is peanuts.

  19. Yes Fartston ah mean Gaston!
Tell us the cock and bull story now as to how your son acquired the building when nobody else outside your family and some cronies knew that it was for sale.
    Another Barnacle Point story.
Another Long Bay land sale story.

  20. Is the Robert Linguist report on the IHI investigation a dead issue? Mr Prim e Minister, I am talking out over $60 million USD misappropriated from the treasury into certain individuals bank account. There is a big difference between $1,5 million ECD AND $60 Million USD.

    • @Dion Pelle…the Linquust Report regarding the IHI recordings gave the UPP and the Nation, a good start, to bring corruption, malfeasance, insider trading etc, those white collar crimes committed by #white_collar criminals in polyester suits, under control!

I believe someone, or a faction of the UPP with ties to some, of the accused in the IHI SAGA, got #cold_feet or were implicated in some way shape or form, therefore, the Linquust Report is on ice.

It must be exhumed to be examined, again, with modern day crime fighting tools.

The Knights Templar have nothing on the crooks #WHO’RE in charge of the Parliament!🧙🏿‍♂️🧙🏿‍♂️🧙🏿‍♂️

      Vere C. Edwards

      • The ABLP compromised the Director of Prosecutions moments after he arrived on Island. He is now facing his own malfeasance case in Jamaica.

In addition, a KC who we thought was a UPP man, now know is a ABLP tool, was Asot Micheal’s attorney; as a result, he was a big impediment to the prosecution.
The statute of limitations has not expired.
        .

  21. Pringle all the way. He is the man for the UPP. After Pringle done go and cut the bush, here is Lewis not trying to get lime light. Lazy Richard. UPP people, vote for Pringle

    • You’re backing Pringle because he can’t challenge your King the way Lewis can. UPP supporters are not stupid — they can see what the ALP minions are up to. Pringle has been y’all’s punching bag for years; now, all of a sudden, he’s ALP #1 pick for UPP leader.

UPP former leaders needs to advise
Pringle to follow Pearl and bow out of this race. Because, even though the leader can/will have a speech writer, that person must also be capable of answering spontaneous questions; and can represent Antigua on the international stage. Pringle is not READY for this kind of challenge; and, he needs to recognize where his shortcomings are. This is not a game!

No shade — just saying what needs to be said.

  22. I have said ad infinitum, this idiot is not credible. I wonder if he is capable of telling the truth, ever? He is caught in one of his endless lies and resorts to dirty tactics, mudslinging and blaming UPP. What an embarrassment this clown is?
According to the Prevention of Corruption law of 2004, this underhanded dealings with his son, baby Mama, et al, has to be deemed Corruption. Is this law null and void? Did they ammendment it? Mr. Tabor, enlightened us.
This man’s greed knows no limit and it will be his downfall.

  23. Mr. Lewis should have written his book in collaboration with lots of other IT teachers in a non-political way. There is plenty of talent in Antigua to create useful relevant educational resources offline and online with a cultural edge, but regular educators would lack funds to do so. While politicians and their friends argue over which side purportedly corruptly “stole” fewer millions, poor people can barely afford food, water, and housing in this country. Since both sides tend to give opportunities to their own friends, average citizens are better off teaming up with one another to create opportunities to get ahead instead of waiting on politicians to fix problems because no matter who is in power, average citizens will not be a priority.

  24. A what! Me and me family can’t make some donzey?(Money) The last time upp win we were out there broke so my ministers have to enrich themselves.
