Prime Minister Gaston Browne proudly declared his administration’s success in job creation, stating it has created more employment opportunities than any previous government since Antigua and Barbuda’s independence.
Browne said there is a visible increase in job advertisements and emphasized the high demand for labor across sectors, particularly in construction and hospitality.
According to the Prime Minister, the positive job growth has also contributed to the stability of the Social Security Fund.
He noted that, despite the government not contributing last year, Social Security has been able to meet all payments—a testament, he said, to the administration’s commitment over the years.
Browne outlined that, under his government, approximately $200 million has been paid into Social Security in the past decade, contrasting this with $60 million reportedly paid by the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) administration.
Browne expressed pride in the administration’s economic performance, calling it a strong foundation of “stewardship.”
He criticized the opposition, claiming they have been attempting to distort the country’s progress by painting a bleak picture of the future.
However, he believes this narrative has started to lose its appeal, with the recent surge in job openings as evidence of real economic improvement.
The Prime Minister has also signaled that Antigua and Barbuda may soon look overseas to fill critical labor gaps as demand for workers continues to surge across sectors.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne highlighted the strain on local resources, particularly in construction and hospitality, where the need for additional workers has outpaced the local supply.

Browne is denigrating the UPP name as a deflection tactic.
