The Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda will lead a delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa from 23rd – 26th October, 2024. Accompanied by Hon. Maria Browne, Minister for Housing, Works and Urban Development, and Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda in London, the Prime Minister will engage in several high-level meetings and bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation among Commonwealth nations.
During the event, Prime Minister Browne will address critical issues, including climate change, sustainable development, and implementation of the Oceans Declaration. Prime Minister Browne’s participation in CHOGM underscores his commitment to advancing the interests of Antigua and Barbuda on the global stage and contributing to the collective efforts of the Commonwealth to build a more resilient and prosperous future for all Member States.
Additionally, Prime Minister Browne will advocate for Antigua and Barbuda to host the next CHOGM in 2026, showcasing the nation’s readiness to contribute to important dialogues among member states.
Last week, in preparation for attending CHOGM, Prime Minister Browne held a call with His Majesty The King, who is the Head of the Commonwealth. Their discussions centred on how Small Island Developing States, such as Samoa and Antigua and Barbuda, can achieve resilient prosperity and sustainable development.
During this week, Prime Minister Browne also held discussions with Commonwealth Secretary General, Baroness Patricia Scotland on similar topics discussed with His Majesty and a number of proposals Prime Minister Browne plans on raising during the three-day meeting.
