Prime Minister Gaston Browne Celebrates 25 Years of Public Service

The Office of the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda is celebrating Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s 25 years of public service as an elected member of the House of Representatives.

Prime Minister Browne, who was first elected on March 9, 1999, representing the St. John’s City West Constituency, has been successful in five consecutive elections.

He is also the only Prime Minister in the country’s history to have won three consecutive elections.

Prime Minister Browne recently secured his third term in office on January 18 2023, during Antigua and Barbuda’s general election.

He is the leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), a position he has held since 2014.

During his tenure, Prime Minister Browne has overseen significant developments and faced challenges, including the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, the establishment of the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne was born in Potters on 9 February 1967 and was raised in the poverty-stricken communities of Point and Grays.

After completing his secondary education, Browne left Antigua for the United Kingdom, where he completed degree programs in Banking and Finance.

Before entering politics full-time, Browne worked in the banking sector for several years and rose to become a senior bank manager.

In the 1999 General Election, Browne entered the political arena and was elected as the Member of Parliament for the constituency of St John’s City West.

Browne’s first ministerial appointment was as the Minister of Planning, Trade, Industry, Commerce, and Public Service Affairs in then Prime Minister Lester Bird’s cabinet.

In April 2021, Browne added the profession of farmer to his long list of accolades when he started Farmer DG Browne Company Limited with his two adult sons.

The farm produces livestock, fresh seasoning, ground provision, and coconuts.

His contributions have made a difference in the lives of many, and he continues to lead the country with vision and purpose.

  1. One tinking duttie choops….He and his family and cronies around him have been a net benefactor in the process.

    • @ BRIXTONIAN….

CONGRATULATIONS to the best Prime Minister in the WORLD. Three terms going on Four. WORLD BOOS.

  2. Too many Jamaicans and Haitians in Antigua and Barbuda nowadays. I prefer when we were a part of the UK. If we remained a colony of the UK, we would have wealth like the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos.

Instead, we have an ‘independent nation’ that is floundering. No water, no jobs, illegal immigration, and growing crime. What’s next?

Hopefully we keep King Charles as our Head of State (to keep our UK visa free access) and also keep the Privy Council in the UK as our Court of final appeal.

    • @Rastaman62.
You are not alone in your thoughts. Some people blame colonialism for the shortcomings in our system when the true shortcoming is the lack of talent and integrity in our leaders. Always leading the charge against the colonial era are the heads of state of African countries who are so corrupt and clueless it beggars belief. I am totally convinced that Antigua and Barbuda would be in a far better place today with colonial rule than the unholy corrupt self serving mess we are in now. Not music to the ears of those in power but true nontheless.

  3. Wow, the Public Relations team are out in force; however, any public servant who has served 25 five years, you would have at least expected the majority of citizens in the country to have benefited as well.

But it’s nice to know he has a PR team behind GastonBrowne, because I didn’t think he had one, I mistakenly thought he was a lone ranger.

LOOK OUT FOR MORE “PR” BULLDUST INCOMING IN THE DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS TO COME … ITS ALL HE’S GOT!

    • @ BRIXTONIAN….

CONGRATULATIONS to the best Prime Minister in the WORLD. Three terms going on Four. WORLD BOOS.

    • BRIXTONIAN put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hon.Gaston Browne shall be Prime Minister for six consecutive terms.

  4. My heartfelt congratulations to my leader and our Prime Minister. You have served your country well. Actually extra-ordinary well. And I thank you sincerely for your contribution thus far. Knowing there is much more to come.
Congrats Dr. Browne and many more years to come.

    • @ Less We Forget

U dam well right, less we forget 08/08/2021, less we forget the rape of Barbuda lands, the rape of Dunbar’s lands, less we forget the enrichment schemes, less we forget the ”stealing of elections by the transferring of voters between constituencies to enable your colleagues to win their seats”, less we forget the high cost of living and suffering that you have caused on the people of Antigua and Barbuda”
YOU AND UR CABAL ARE A BUNCH OF CORRUPT POLITICIANS WHO FLEECE THIS COUNTRY LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE, BUT LIKE NEBUCHADNEZZAR WE WILL ONE DAY LIVE TO SEE ALL OF YOU EATING GRASS.

  5. The Jamaicans them need to go to hell home them wicket bad and ungrateful
He and the other ministers encourage them here
The 25 years in office makes no sense Antigua no see no progress tarl

    • I can see right through you. You folks like to foster discord. Don’t pretend to be a UPP supporter; you are a minion who is doing your best to create controversy between Antiguans and other Nationalities. Is that your best at being clever?

  6. Both of the comments about Jamaican seems to a full blown hatred. It’s seems we Antiguans and other nationals never go other people countries and commits notorious crimes and it’s been sweep under the rugs just to keep our nose clean for tourists green back dollars. Even if they are not in our country and something about them comes up we all hates on these people. Honestly it’s the good nature of these people irrates the demons in all the haters to Jamaican people. Go travel outside and see what our nationals are doing in other people countries.

  7. Our ability to thrash each other knows no bounds. Slavery and colonialism did quite a number on us and continues to this day. The opposition parties seem to be incapable of acknowledging any of Prime Minister Browne’s accomplishments as a leader and uses every opportunity to accuse him of nefarious activities. There appears to be nothing that we Antiguans and Barbudans can coalesce around. It’s a shame..I suppose when he can no longer help himself or others and has departed this life we will heap praise upon him.

    • @ Sharon ‘No Way’ Patriotic Lycorish,

And you ABLP acolytes and Gastonites DO NOT call out Gaston Browne’s WRONGDOINGS whenever they occur – you’re no patriotic Antiguan, by putting a self-enriched person before your country. Gu way!!!

THIS IS NO WAY STREET …

    • You are back from your native land. Your stupidity knows no bounds, and so it brings out the worse in us.
You are right about one thing. Colonialism did a job that did country has not shaken.

It was during Colonialism when Old Man Bird devised the “Go See your Parliamentary Minister” form of delivering government services. That political doctrine is the foundation of graft and greed endemic today.

You have not even the simplest idea of our country political history. So don’t give me the Slavery and Colonialism Mombo jumbo.

Please tell what us what positive things Gaston has accomplished. Are you suggesting that his nefarious activities should be ignored? Where were you when the DCA lease was been commented on? The wood louse is falling out the woodwork, I see.

After being in hiding, you suddenly appear commenting on ability to thrash each other.

You are like the corrupt Religious Ministers who prays with you on Sunday; and go to Cabinet on Tuesday and prays over the self-enrichment schemes.

What they are doing is worse than you being raped by your father. The people who should be strengthening our democracy are enabling its destruction, and idiots like you don’t have a clue. Move on from whence you came.

  8. 25 YEARS OF SELF ENRICHMENTS TO INCLUDE RELATIVES AND CONCUBINES.WHILE THE MAJORITY ARE HUNGRY AND POOR AS DIRTS.

  9. SO WHAT??? The country now lagging behind St Kitts and the others. We are now full of crime and all kinds of ills under his stewardship. People have and are becoming poorer.
What’s there to be happy about???

  10. WoW wow wow It is coming just a matter of time justice is slow but it is untime I was pleased on Fridays news when I heard that the Former Prime Minister of Honduras was convicted in the United States of America for Money laundering Drug Trafficking three months after he lost the Election he was Extradited from his home country . On one of the charges it is said that he was offered a Bribe by a member in his diplomatic Corps this charge is similar to allegation that was made to our Prime Minister I remember Casroy James time is ticking Gaston Brown you next

  11. Just one accomplishment only has earned him the flowers he so well deserves. And that is that he was determined to bring to the youth of Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Leeward Islands the Fourth Landed Campus of the UWI. This is an lifetime accomplishment for generations to come. Many families have seen their dreams of sending their child or children to university come through. I had to take many loans to send my children to university and wish I had this option. I really envy today’s parents that have this choice. No need to take a second mortgage on your house. And the children are not burdened with study loans for years to come. The PM scholarship is paying almost everything.

    • @ Less We Forget

The ABLP and its leader have STOLEN EVERY SINGLE ELECTION ‘except when there is complete re-registration’.
THE GOVERNMENT IS ILLEGITIMATE AS CLEARLY ADVOCATED BY THE PM HIMSELF, when he acknowledged transferring voters between constituencies.
ARE YOU SUPPORTED PROUD OF THAT?
AND BTW how many Antiguans can afford the exorbitant tuition fees WHEN THEY CANNOT EVEN BUY BREAD? THIS AS A RESULT OF THE HARDSHIP PLACED ON US BY AN ‘ENRICHMENT SCHEME’ GOVERNMENT.
From day 1 his MANTRA WAS TO TAKE GOVERNMENT LAND, beginning with the land at ENGLISH HARBOUR just prior to the 2004 election. He since then continued this pattern with IMPUNITY. The evil that men do will live after them.

  12. It’s The name Jamaican is a sweet savor people when Antiguan and other National do wrong we never highlight their name but as swift as it states a non National it’s Jamaicans we badmined no wa. Have shame people pick the muck from our eyes before pointing out others.

  13. What is there to celebrate? Like Pussy Salad, Cutie Benjamin and Molwyn Joseph, this clown has nothing to celebrate. Not from the perspective of country. No doubt, a man who had nothing prior to 2014, now schemes and inside trade to advance himself and his family and country be damned.
He will be weighed in the balance and found woefully wanting. Anyone who tries to make this man to be anything other than greedy, reprehensible and unscrupulous is probably a cool-aid drinking, political prostitute or traitor.
    Please.
