Prime Minister Gaston Browne used the platform of his own radio station, Pointe FM radio, to fight back against long circulating rumours of an affair with an underage girl.
Browne, a married man, said the rumours began since he was leader of the opposition but are untrue and part of a political smear campaign to damage his reputation.
“I heard a man saying recently that he had information that I have some Spanish woman pregnant and, hear this, a Spanish girl under the age of consent,” Browne said on air Saturday.
“I never had no Spanish woman in my life. And if it is one man who would never lose the key to his brain and touch any girl under the age of consent (it’s me).”
Browne said the accuser was a “well respected man in this society,” but when he called him to confront him, the man, which Browne did not name, admitted that he had just heard a rumour and had no proof.
“When they have their political agenda they create all kind of nastiness, all kind of propaganda,” the nation’s leader said.
