Prime Minister Browne meets with Young Entrepreneur

Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne continues to meet and dialogue with young entrepreneurs in office. On Friday, Travis Weste, Antigua and Barbuda’s 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic rower presented his business venture to Prime Minister Browne in his office on Queen Elizabeth Highway.

Travis recently ventured into entrepreneurship by partnering with Range Global Services as their exclusive distributor for Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean.

With over 20 years of experience, Range Global Satellite Services is an international telecommunications company that provides mobile and reliable communications services. The company offers a mobile device that can be used in emergencies to support communication. This is especially true in remote areas where traditional communications are not available. The manufacturer says the device offers more features and options than any other satellite phone available today.

In Travis’ words, the phone is the right handset for hurricanes and emergency preparedness. “It bypasses all traditional telecommunications utilizing satellite to satellite communication.” Weste continued on to state that the phone is currently being used throughout the United States and globally including Ukraine for humanitarian aid. “Even when everything goes down, the phones work,” Weste said.

When PM Browne asked Travis why he decided to become an entrepreneur, Travis replied, “I decided to answer your call for more youth entrepreneurship”.

“As a professional rower, this phone was my lifeline while out on the open sea. I have firsthand experience of its necessity and reliability. Plus living in a country and an area that is prone to natural disasters and recognizing that phones like this are not necessarily accessible to the general public, I saw it as a perfect opportunity to partner with a global company in offering this service. Bringing an internationally recognized company to Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Caribbean ties into my civic pride as a young Antiguan. This venture will bring access to satellite phones to homes across the island,” Travis said.

Terry Daniels, President and Managing Director of Range Global Services said “We are extremely excited to be able to utilize Travis’s knowledge and understanding of Iridium satellite phones and equipment.  Having Travis represent our company is a perfect fit.  We are looking forward to working with the Antigua and Barbuda Government, its businesses and residents.  We are also grateful for the opportunity provided by Prime Minister Gaston Browne to provide satellite communications as a form of backup and emergency communications to Antigua and Barbuda.  We hope to not only serve Antigua and Barbuda but also the surrounding islands in the Caribbean.”

The Prime Minister noted that he was pleased to endorse Travis as an entrepreneur and committed to helping with the promotion, advertisement, and endorsement of the product. “I am pleased that you chose to respond to the national call for more youth entrepreneurship. Rest assured, you have my commitment and that of my government to lend support to and patronize this initiative in light of the upcoming hurricane season.”

“Keep pushing forward, continue to empower yourself, and do not get swayed by naysayers, especially those who may want to throw you off your path. Continue to pursue your goals in whatever you do, just keep at it,” Browne said.

The Prime Minister also offered sound business and legal advice to the budding entrepreneur.

  1. Well done, young man. Work hard and you will be successful. Please stay away from false riches gained from corrupt creative self-enrichment schemes. Those riches do not last as they are not derived from an honest day’s work.

  2. I wonder if picking up dead dogs pays more than this. Let’s ask Pringle. Cause the government NSWMA owes him millions for that service. Talking about milking the Treasury. This is how the UPP does that. I don’t ever recall seeing an ad in the newspaper for contractors to tender on picking up dead dogs. Was he the only one or did we pick the lowest bidder? Things need to be investigated.

  3. Young man BEWARE!!! This man speaks with a forked tongue.

He made similar promises and assurances to entrepreneurs and the business minded diaspora living abroad.

Go ahead with your enterprise, but please be wary of politicians vague promises and guidance – MANY OF US HAVE LEARNT THE HARD WAY …
