Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued a strong warning to criminals in Antigua and Barbuda, vowing the government’s forceful response to rising crime.
Browne, speaking to border security officers on Monday, declared, “We have more manpower and firepower. We will fight fire with fire and steel with steel.”
He assured the public that authorities have the necessary expertise and resources to combat criminal activities and prevent fear from spreading. Browne called on border protection personnel to intensify their efforts, promising immediate access to any required resources.
“This is about taking action,” he emphasized, urging law enforcement to act decisively and target criminals, including those coming to the country to commit serious crimes. Browne also highlighted the need to dismantle gangs, stressing the importance of strategies to disrupt their operations and redirect members toward productive activities.

PM can you speak to the allegations surrounding Dwayne and the post master general regarding him allegedly assisting a friend of a friend?
If the allegations are true will you suggest that he be punished like any other criminal?
CAUSES PM. You have to look at what, where and how these crimes are being perpetrated on our society. And again, actions must be applied to all. That is one of the biggest problems in this country, where to get anything or to get out of anything, simply check your minister.
We wait to see how soon you deal with that Dwayne George issue, which will tell us if you at all serious

Fire will fire will not work, criminals will think just like before, I am not going to be caught, they always think that. So, focused should be on reducing the opportunity to commit crimes. This is not just about the presence (of officers). It requires strategies that confuses criminals on when and where officers will be, reduction of opportunities for criminals to commit crimes, putting fear in criminals that we know who what their plans are because we now have intelligence, data and so forth and will use this to advance national security and safety.
Fighting fire with fire is the same thing as saying, we are going to increase penalty, and this has no effect because criminals act because they think they are not going to be caught to get the fire/punish/the harm. So, this has never been effective at reducing the opportunities to commit crimes. But a strategic idea on how to put fear of being caught in the minds of criminals and reducing opportunities should be the focus.
Having more officers alone will not put that fear into criminals of being caught, and having more officerd will alone will not reduce the opportunities for criminals to commit crimes. Officers will need the guidance of experts in the field that can collect data/intelligence, analyse and recommend strategic policing styles for these officers to do what is truly needed to reduce crimes and that is to put fear of apprehension in the minds of criminals and reducing opportunities to commit crimes. Antigua and Barbuda always had laws and police. Even this weekend, they had both, but vicious crimes still occurred. It means both (law and police) are not adequate and the next step that is needed with them (law and police) is proper pragmatic strategies from those with the advance knowledge in behavior, society, minds, and so forth as described below.
The Office of Intelligence and National Security should be created by an Act which authorized INSU to set INTELLIGENCE AND NATIONAL SECURITY priorities, implement a comprehensive and research-based national strategy on intelligence gathering, analysis, etcetera, to FORMULATE strategies to reduce internal and external threats to the country that could have a national and substantial negative impact.
This unit will be made up mainly of advanced degree holders and those with exceptional abilities in science, technology, engineering, math, criminology, psychology, psychiatry, national security, international relations, terrorism, corrections, law, statistics, forensics, economics, sociology, history, ballistics, etcetera.
I am calling on you to make this INSU operational so that experts are able to guide law enforcement in a science based strategy for national security.
The Pm, Ag, and other local leaders are in denial that the local force has the skills and expertise in this area of national security, intelligence, and research.
We are dealing with the minds of criminals. We are dealing with society (various kinds of minds), and you are telling me you do not comprehend the importance of social science in this? Do you really not comprehend the urgent pragmatic need to understanding people to strategies?
The statement by the PWA highlights all the issues involving leadership or the lackthereof. It has always been my view that government departments all across the board are suffering from a lack of effective proper leadership. Too many puppets in charge. They know not the difference between fear and respect and that is their undoing. They feared the political directorate and mistakenly called it respect. They relied on politicians to tell them what to do, not knowing that the law already empowered them. No one around that table dare question the Top Dawg . Sad state of affairs
Here are a few issues which the PM and his governing body and the rest of the Nation, to some degree will have to deal with…
A…overcrowded prison.
B…the revolving door criminal.
C…parole systems.
D…separate facilities to house juveniles and non-violent offenders.
E…the Courts with overloads and lawsuits against the government.
All of the above requires serious funding to experienced personnel.
Having lived and still live in neighborhoods which were decimated by criminal behaviors, have witnessed (the streets are like a movie set) and being involved (construction & agriculture are my passion) in the resurrection and revitalisation of neighborhoods, some call it GENTRIFICATION, GASTON BROWNE, PM; read, listen, see, comprehend good, it is ONLY thru wholesome, holistic methods with ALL STAKE HOLDERS involved, that will get the CRIME VIBES out of Our Nation. Not no draconian, overseer, whip cracking boss.
To those of you who thinks, that I’m taking S.H.I.T., please be reminded this kind of SHIT is some

“Out Of Chaos Comes Order;” as in, the same policy makers which sets to policies, that create CHAOS, by design, then morph into the ones to create the policies, to mitigate the CHAOTIC #S.H.I.T_U_NATION.

Hey bro, not to knock down what you’ve said on your post, but unfortunately many of us know what many of the problems that have faced Antiguan’s, but here we have a PM who is directly complicit in the degregration of this tiny island call Antigua.
Corruption has always been rampant in Antigua, and straight out in John public for all to see. In fact recently the Likes of Allen Stanford ( who got 110 years in prison) once run Antigua with his 8bil Ponzi Scheme, and many a Antiguan’s have benefited from those ill-gotten gains and did turn a blind eye to it.
The government can easily get a hold of these petty criminals that run the streets and a holding up shops and stealing a few dollars to survive, but who is policing the corruption that the likes of Gaston Browne has directly been involved in?
We know the Nigerians are in his pocket big time..just look at the Antigua Airways fiasco where 1000 so-called refugees disappeared into thin air.
So yes we know the problems that have faced Antiguan’s, and they voted this man in office to fix those problems, instead he has further degrade the name of Antigua, where most Antiguan’s can’t even recognize their very own country.
Are we doomed, no, but is this the man to step up and bring some semblance of normalcy back to Antigua, hell no.
So there you have it.
Take a book out of El Salvador. No mercy to criminals .Antigua will be safe again.
