President of the Republic of Cuba Raul Castro, his entourage and security detail landed at the VC Bird International Airport in two private jets on Thursday morning.
Arriving at about 11 AM, the Cuban delegation was greeted by a full military honour guard.
Castro is here for the Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be hosted Antigua and Barbuda on Friday 8 December.
The Meeting will be co-chaired by Caricom Chairman Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell of Grenada and the President Castro. This event marks 45 years of diplomatic relations between CARICOM and Cuba.
Climate change, in light of a very active hurricane season in 2017, is expected to be a major focus of the meeting.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and Cuba’s Agency for Civil Defence will be siged at the end of the meeting. The agreement is expected to provide opportunities for closer collaboration.
