The preliminaries for the holding of a Coroner’s inquest into the circumstances touching the tragic shooting death of prison farm escapee, Shanell ‘Silence, Mabz’ Thomas…. have reportedly been completed today- Friday 18, March, 2022.
Well-placed sources told this news portal that a mixed jury of four females and two males have been sworn in before Coroner Conliffe Clarke around mid-morning.
A female educator was said to have been selected as Foreman.
As required by law, the coroner and a 5-member jury reportedly visited and viewed the body of the deceased at the Barnes Funeral Home.
The body was said to have been identified by a tearful, distraught and grieving mother, Winifred Thomas of Cassada Garden.
Following brief instructions by the coroner, the jury was dismissed.
The jury was reportedly advised that the Police shall notify them of the courtroom proceedings.
It is expected that witnesses will be called to give testimony as to their knowledge of the deceased and the incident in which he was allegedly shot in the upper body by a police patrol.
Police reported that he subsequently succumbed to the injuries sustained on the night of February 10, 2022.
Some professionals suggested that the escapee died instantly from approximately three gunshots to the chest and abdomen.
A pathologist, Dr. Petra Miller-Nanton who reportedly conducted a post mortem examination on the body, determined that the deceased died of gunshot injuries on March 2, 2022.
