The islands in its path are : the leewards islands and the British Virgin Islands.

The depression is expected to be in the vicinity around Tuesday, as a strong tropical storm or hurricane. It has the potential to cause extensive wind impacts, flooding rainfall and storm surge, resulting in life threating conditions, disruptions to daily life and damage to infrastructure.

At 2:45 pm ECT, Tropical Depression Five, previously tropical disturbance AL99, was located about 1000 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands moving west at around 12mph.

A turn to the west-northwest is forecast on Sunday, which could bring the system dangerously close to Antigua & Barbuda.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35mph with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next few days and the depression is forecast to become a Tropical Storm, perhaps Dorian by Sunday.

According to Antigua & Barbuda Meteorological Services, there are no alerts, watches or warnings are in effects at this time but this could change in the next 24 hours.

Additionally, Residents should monitor this developing system closely, as it has the potential to cause category one hurricane conditions across our islands, which would result in extensive damage.
