The General Post Office has been forced to close indefinitely after employees refused to work in unsafe conditions.
This shutdown is the latest in a string of strikes linked to ongoing health concerns at postal facilities.
Raw sewage spills have prompted workers to walk off the job, spotlighting the numerous health hazards that have plagued the building in recent years.
There is currently no timeline for when the issue will be resolved or the facility will reopen.

the workers need a safe work environment!!
helath hazard of the mind is probably the worst…….leaving Man Cow party behind for the sake of your mental health takes courage.
this is not the first strike by the post office, your great Gaston really cares for his people doest he? he have time to waste with stupid gangs and that didn’t stop any crime.
Raw sewage spills… Did a pipe break discharging dozens of gallons of toilet water everywhere? Did a single toilet overflow because of someones large roti or burrito and wasn’t cleaned up immediately because the janitor was at lunch? Did someone miss the toilet altogether and urinate on the floor?
This happens so often that it makes me wonder if the postal facilities are really that bad or is it just another excuse for strike-happy Antiguans to walk off the job.
Why is the building not condemned for human occupation and rebuild like the old administration building that now house the ministry of health. These contractors are a joke. They keep patching things that don’t work. if it is not sewage it is roof leaking and mold.
Take the bold decision and either demolish the building and build something better or a complete renovation. I’m for demolishing it. We can build a purposeful post office. Cause really in this 21st century we really do not need a post office.
Has govt decided the island no longer needs a postal service?
When will the issues plaguing the Post Office be sorted out and resolved? These very issues has long been a source of discomfort, irritation and annoyance for the staff for well over 5 years and it’s shameful that they have not been resolved to date. This is totally unacceptable and shows little or no regard for the people who work in the Post Office. It’s time that the government holds its contractors to account when they are contracted to do work. The Post Office falls under the Ministry of Finance which is headed by the Prime Minister.

No, that is just my opinion. Post offices have become redundant with the introduction of email and online programs alike. And many people use mail boxes to receive parcels.
They had enough reason to strike 2 weeks ago when the dishonest flipflop accompanied his friend to approach the Head Postmaster to surrender their treasure. That matter is now extinct.
Why use human labour and automated machines can do the same and better at a cheaper cost? How do you get rid of all these unwanted useless eaters!?…. create a problem, fuel a reaction and then bring in the solution. Lol

“The Post Office falls under the Ministry of Finance which is headed by the Prime Minister.”
And you should also know that the maintenance of any government building falls under the Ministry of Public Works. Which is the Minister Maria Browne. So why not mention that?
You of all people know that a ministry is run by the Public Servants the Permanent Secretary and the Director. And there under several Engineers. The person directly responsible for this is Alwin Crump, he needs to either shape up or shipped out. But he has been failing too many times. I blamed this to his many private hats. He was an one of the engineer of one of the houses I build and he was not worth the money he was paid. Lots of errors turned up later that he was responsible for not letting it happen. But like with everything, he is a party member and the last thing they will do is to dismissed him. In certain things I don’t care about party and politics. All of the engineers in Public Works have their private business. So how can one expect them to work in the best interest of the country. And this is not a Public Work issue. It is EVERYWHERE in government, All the technicians in the ministry of Agriculture have their own farm, All the engineers at APUA have their own side job. At MSJMC the doctors have their private practice. And other professionals such as the IT engineers have their private businesses. I once had a problem with my internet and when I called APUA, guess what? The person they send to look at my problem ended up working as a private consultant sorting me out. And that during APUA paid time. While Mr. Crump worked on my house he was doing that in Public Works time. Our entire system is one corrupt system. And I don’t know what it will take to fix it. But something will have to give one day.
To hell with this useless bunch of insensitive freeloaders. The public has already got used to being without you and each of you should be declared redundant. Send them all home. We don’t need them anymore. Let them go home to enjoy their own homegrown sewage seeping from their own walls. And shame on the government for failing to correct this damn nonsense!
