Source- Real News Antigua: Policeman’s Vitz stolen with bulletproof vest and official IDs inside; car recovered, but no details on contents

The Police are investigating a spate of vehicle thefts, the majority targeting Toyota Vitz cars – one of which was a policeman’s and contained a bulletproof vest and his official identification.

Accounts say the officer, a Paynters resident, telephoned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and reported that his white 2006 Toyota Vitz, A66112, which had been parked on St. George’s Street in The Point, had been stolen.

This offence reportedly occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 7:11 a.m. on April 14.

It is alleged that the policeman had parked and secured his vehicle, using his keys, on the southern side of the street.

In it, he reportedly left his uniform hat, bulletproof vest, and wallet, which contained his police identification card and other government-issued identification.

However, upon his return, he said, the car was gone.

And, reportedly, the vehicle had been taken while the lawman had its two keys in his possession.

An extensive search was carried out for the vehicle and its contents, but without initial success.

However, the vehicle was later found in the Sutherlands area and transported to Police Headquarters.

It is not known whether the officer’s personal items were still inside.

  1. Just reading these reports of crime incidents, it does appear that there is a ring of very organized human beings operating at a very high level. As a suggestion, the crime experts that we have locally, regionally and internationally maybe need to take a deep dive into this very troubling matter so that a comprehensive and detailed solution can be achieved. These criminals may have gone next level and may be more organized than we think.

    • Next level like the theft of the country’s resources? Anyway, remember several years ago, there was a popular quote that stated poverty breeds crime? Well that statement is more realistic today than i was then and I see that you are really perplexed. Appeal to the orchestrators to have it fixed.

  2. So in light of all the crimes that’s been happening with the police being no closer to apprehending the responsible persons, we now have a criminal who has a bulletproof police vest, police hat and police ID on the streets.

Police, please ensure to come in a clearly marked vehicle if you require me to stop, otherwise we will be playing cat and mouse all the way headquarters. I thank you!

    • Its them the say ones commiting the crime. Its hard for me to believe this story knowing how corrupt they are. His vest hat and other items should have NEVER been left in his car. He deserves DISCIPLINE for this. To much organized foolishness taking place. And they playing a part in it.

  3. If the government really cared about the police every station would have personal lockers to store these items at the end of shifts.
