(PRESS RELEASE)

The general public is reminded that the Gun Amnesty which was put into effect by Cabinet on 15th October is still in effect, and ends on 15th November, 2017. A reward of twenty thousand dollars was set aside by the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda, to go towards anyone providing relevant information that leads to the confiscation of any illegal firearms and ammunition from off the streets; as well as the successful prosecution of holders of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The Amnesty was imposed following a spate of gun-related crimes which was taking place within the country earlier this year. Outside of that the police have conducted several intelligence-driven operations and were successful in removing a number of illegal firearms and ammunition from off the streets.

During a Gun Amnesty, members of the public are called upon to turn over any illegal firearms, ammunition, imitation firearms, air guns, as well as providing information about anyone involved in similar criminal activities without being prosecuted. The general public is assured that any information provided to the police will be regarded in the highest confidential manner. The continued cooperation of all is expected.
