NO SALE OF ALCOHOL ON GOOD FRIDAY

The Police Administration is reminding members of the general public that in accordance with Section 32 of the Licensing (Intoxicating Liquor) (Amendment) Act, No. 9 of 2014, of the Laws of Antigua and Barbuda, NO Alcohol must be sold on Good Friday, April 7, 2023.

It, therefore means that the owners and operators of Bars, Supermarkets, Shops, and other places that were granted licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages must desist from engaging in the sale of alcohol starting from the period of midnight Thursday 6 April, through the entire day of Good Friday.

The Commissioner of Police is appealing to the owners and operators of these establishments to conform with the regulations as set out under the law.

Failure to comply may result in the revocation of licenses and other legal actions taken against the owners and operators.

The full cooperation of the general public is expected going forward.

  1. When I lived in Antigua. All of the businesses around the Island were closed on Good Friday. Even the Casino at Mamora Bay did not operate on that day.So what has change then to now? The places opened on Good Friday were the Churches and the Beaches. It used to be a most beautiful and long weekend.

  2. This is pure Hypocrisy ..You can Rob, Sex, lie, and do all thing on Good Friday, even Smoke Marihuana but selling Rum is against the Law on Goodfriday, You can even Smuggle and Traffic Africans and do Human trafficking on that Day. This Don’t make Antigua a Christian Nation.

  3. Same sex marriage and homosexuality is encouraged, no caveat on the sale and use of other pleasure drugs, this is just rank hypocrisy.

  4. Outside of the law can Frankie Thomas please explain what problem is being solved by that law?

It’s Friday night and I am certain the strip clubs will be shagging. But that’s OK just no alcohol….
