Police Respond to Statements by Opposition Leader
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Saturday, December 27, 2025
The Police Administration has expressed dissatisfaction with recent public statements made by Jamale Pringle, Leader of the Opposition, concerning the police in relation to an ongoing investigation.
The Honourable Jamale Pringle was invited to assist the police with investigations into the malicious damage to property belonging to Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) at Old Road.
During discussions with Commissioner of Police, Mr. Everton Jeffers, the Honourable Leader of the Opposition indicated that he will make himself available to assist the investigation on Friday, December 26, at 10:00 a.m.
This arrangement was communicated to his attorney, who agreed to the time and provided assurance that they would attend Police Headquarters as requested.
The Police Administration emphasizes that the purpose of the invitation was to obtain information relevant to the ongoing investigation.
It is therefore unfortunate that, after agreeing to the date and time to attend Police Headquarters, Mr. Pringle subsequently made public statements that is contrary to what was agreed upon.
The Police Administration reaffirms its commitment to act in the best interest of all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation or persuasion. The public is reminded that the laws of Antigua and Barbuda must be respected at all times, and the police will continue to carry out their duties with professionalism, fairness, and impartiality.

The police have no professional directive been carried out, but political instructions just as they did with the late George Walter.
As long as this wasn’t an ABLP led police investigation, I’m fine with politicians being investigated for perceived wrongdoings.

It looks like you want to give the Lawless Leader a heart attack by having Pringle removed as leader. Careful what you wish for.
Respecting Laws should first come from the police. Who kill Manny James? Who kill Kaleel Simon? Who is responsible for the Vehicle Gate? Who forge the PM signature? Do you know the laws Jeffers ?
There is a feeling, rightly or wrongly, that the police force lack independence and take their instructions solely from the political directorate. The police is here to serve everyone regardless of party affiliation, and citizens must have confidence in the police if we all are to work together in order to solve and minimize crimes. It is therefore Incumbent upon the police to show their independence and not be driven by any particular side or group. The same exuberance that they used to investigate this incident involving APUA’S equipment must be used to investigate the tons of cars that were inadvertently charged to the tax payers of which even the police, customs personnel, Transport Board and the Works Ministry was fingered. I have not heard the police hierarchy comment on or question anyone in regards to this.

If what I am reading is correct and there was an agreement between Mr. Pringle and the police that he should (voluntarily) make himself available at Police Headquarters for questioning on 26 December, 2025; where the hell does the notion of a SUMMONS comes from to facilitate his attendance? If the fault is with the MEDIA then the media should always get its information straight.
