Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision on Popeshead Street
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, Sunday, November 30, 2025
Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 30, on Popeshead Street in the vicinity of Pita Pocket.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Joshua Alexander of Light Foot, who was the rider of a black scooter.
Preliminary reports indicate that Alexander was travelling from north to south along Popeshead Street at a high speed, when he apparently lost control of the scooter and collided with a wall and sidewalk on the eastern side of the road.
He sustained multiple injuries to his body as a result of the impact.
Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and conducted an assessment, during which no signs of life were detected. A medical doctor officially pronounced him dead at 3:16 a.m.
The police extend condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. The investigation is ongoing.

Speeding again! when are these people going to come to their senses. Speed thrills but it also kills. If the police really do regular patrols the government would make so much money from Speeding we could lower the ABST
According to the news article, the police said that he was traveling at a high rate of speed. How was that determined, in that short space of time? However, at that time of the morning, how can anyone, give that information when there hasn’t been a proper investigation as to the cause of the accident, etc, etc? Too often, information are given out to the public prematurely and, it needs to stop. If that person was of a certain caliber in society, that information timing would have been very different. Matters should be thoroughly investigated first, then public statement after, regardless of who, what or where!
@Jacob Stapleton…. Errrrmmmm. Your assertions scream of complete ignorance and of a person who just loves to chat. Ever hear of something called “braking/stopping distance”? The police can measure the length of a tyre mark on the road and calculate the likely speed someone was travelling at the time of impact. Additionally, damage to the scooter, wall and the person can also give clues. Moreover, eyewitness accounts would also be helpful. Do you think you have a monopoly on thinking? You need to shut your trap and seek knowledge and understanding before coming to a public forum braying like a jackass.

Clearly you didn’t read the words Preliminary Reports Indicated that he was speeding, meaning the initial report from whomever reported the matter along with witnesses who may have been present at the time on the arrival of the police!!! The article is only explaining and updating us on what’s happening.
@ jacob stapleton- is either you a little dumce or a little slow. A scooter traveling slow to a scooter traveling fast has different impact outcomes. Thats how the police knew.

@ Jacob Stapleton, speeds can be determined by the amount of damage on impact, the length of tire marks on the road surface and weather conditions.
I’m sure the police (who have attended many similar incidents in Antigua) will have more knowledge about these matters than you and I.
Maybe, or maybe not these are just preliminary findings by the police, but speeding has always a big issue here. It still is.

To your knowledge are blood and urine samples taken from the operators of machinery (vehicles to motor scooters to bicycles – roaming animals of the non-HUEman variety will eat & roam, not #Drug_N_Drive); but seriously, are blood and urine samples collected from the drivers/ooerators immediately after the accident! Of course, this case an autopsy would include a toxicology screening for drugs or alcohol.
Collect the drivers/operators blood and urine immediately after the accident for answers to cause etc.
I read where you’re advocating for education rather than more severe fines and penalties for those who’re addicted to speeding on the roads; there is more than enough education and common sense out here to allow one to make rational decisions, when it comes to being given the PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT, to operate machinery in PUBLIC SPACES. Education will do but so much. Increase the fines and penalties for being ignorant to the facts, of having a license to drive.

BTW – between 1:00 am- 5:00 am is a great time for spot checks/traffic checks at impromptu check points.
