Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced moments ago that parliament will be prorogued. Browne said he would read a statement later in the sitting.
“In fact I will make a statement, not to preempt, very shortly that parliament will be prorogued,” he said.
The PM was speaking during tributes to late MP Eustace Lake, new MP Randy Baltimore and outgoing MP Sir Molwyn Joseph.
More to come.

Well it’s politics time again. How you’re gonna vote now
WHY WAS THERE A “BUY” ELECTION IN ST.PHILLIPS NORTH ON MARCH 16,2026? NOW PARLIAMENT WOULD BE PROROGUED AND A GENERAL ELECTION DATE WOULD BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY.SO THERE WOULD BE HUGE SPENDING IN THAT AND OTHER CONSTITUENCIES AGAIN.WHAT A DAMN WASTE.SANTA CLAUS WOULD BE COMING TO TOWNS AGAIN IN HIS HEAVY RED SUIT.
I believe that word should be DISSOLUTION and not PROROGUE. The latter is for recess between Parliamentary sessions and Dissolution is when the life of a Parliament comes to an end before a general election.
Dissolving Parliament terminates the entire parliamentary session, triggers a general election, and results in all pending business dying.
Proroguing Parliament merely pauses or suspends a session, pausing business without forcing an election, and allows the same Parliament to return later.
Dissolution brings a parliament to a close.
Prorogation signals the end of a parliamentary session – the parliamentary ‘year’. This brings nearly all parliamentary business – including most bills and all motions and parliamentary questions – to a close. Parliament then reconvenes when a new session starts – marked by the G.G Speech, which outlines a new programme of legislation. The main difference between dissolution and prorogation is that, after prorogation the same ‘parliament’ (including the same MPs) reconvene, whereas after dissolution, an election takes place and a new ‘parliament’ is formed.ANTIGUA and BARBUDA FALLS UNDER THE WEST MINISTER PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM.
