Police in Antigua expected to be on “high alert” during weekend protest following events in St. Vincent

Information Minister Melford Nicholas said today he imagines that local police officers will be on a high level of alert for the Fight for Our Freedom Protest on Sunday.

He was responding to a question from a reporter about the wounding attack on St. Vincent Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

Here is his full response in light of the upcoming protest actions against COVID-19 regulation measures.

  3. Our Antigua police and military are great, and I support them 100%! If you compare Antigua’s military and police to other countries in the Caribbean, Antigua’s is much more professional and ethical. Antigua is a country of law-and-order, and the UK common-law.

    One of the benefits of Antigua remaining a Commonwealth country where the Queen is still the ‘Head of State’ is that if anybody tries to use violence to overthrow our leaders, the UK military and others will come in to correct the situation ASAP.

    If you look at a country like Haiti, they don’t have the Queen as the Head of State.
