Three people, in two separate incidents were arrested on suspicion of Money Laundering by the police, and are in custody assisting the police with their investigations.

Police Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Narcotics and K-9 Unit carried out an intelligence led operation in the Cashew Hill Area on Friday and seized EC$13,211.85 and US$18.25, along with 79 grams of Cannabis from a Cashew Hill home. A 62 year old mother and her 42 year-old son were taken into custody.

In a related incident, a 25 year-old woman of Green Hill, Liberta was taken into custody following the seizure of EC$9, 770. The Police believe that both incidents are directly linked to each other, and that the monies were illegally obtained through the sale of illegal drugs and other criminal means.

The Police Proceeds of Crime Unit is continuing further investigations into the matter.

  1. Seems like more and more its becoming a crime just to have money in your possession!! Or maybe IRA just for poor people to have a little money in their house. That’s the kind of laws the rich first world is imposing on us poor third world countries. They bank billions from marijuana sales and nothing wrong with that. A little man here has a few dollars and one once of marijuana in his house and police confiscate his money and charge him with a crime. Seems real crazy to me!

  2. Has it been proven that all incidences are linked to drugs?
If there are no evidences to prove, will persons get back their money?
Is it a crime to have large sums of money in one’s possession?
How did police know that these sums of money exist?
    Just wondering!

  3. Mmmm, how much interest does one gets with over $10,000 in his or her home. The last thing Antigua needs, is to become like the ghettos of Chicago, and it’s slowly heading there with crime and drugs. If you’re Antiguan, and you love Antigua, then help in keeping it pristine. Those two components brings down any city or country. I’ve seen it happen in the 80s, it can happen in Antigua if the athorities don’t quickly put a lid on it. BE PROACTIVE, NOT INACTIVE!!!!!

  4. What brand of soap powder did they use to launder the money? Obviously the smell was strong enough to attract the police. Choose a different kind of soap powder next time people.
