Postal workers expected back at work today

After protest action shut down the General Post Office staff are being told to return to work.

The post office located in St. John’s has been closed for more than three weeks for renovations after the staff protested the unhealthy and hazardous conditions of the building.

“The Cabinet instructed the Postmaster General to summon his workers at the General Post Office back to work at8:00 am on Thursday morning, April 12, 2018,” Government’s Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst reported.

“Although cleaning and refurbishing of the GPO was taking place on Wednesday, the Cabinet directed the Postmaster to complete the work so that accumulated mail can be sorted and distributed commencing Thursday,” he said.

Hurst added that it was agreed and all postal workers are asked to report to work immediately.
