PM wants a community credit union in Point and Villa

23

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he’s on a mission to make it easier for the residents of Point and Villa to access funds to improve the housing stock in the area. Browne says he’s raising funds to start a community credit union, and he has undertaken to contribute the first $500,000 in shares. The Prime Minister also asked St. Peter MP Asot Michael to contribute $100,000, but Michael said he will provide $250,000.

“I’m also going to various businessmen, I hope the Hadeeds will put in $100,000, Rob Barrett $100,000,” Browne said. “I’m trying to raise $1 million to start this community credit union and that is my next project for St. John’s City West.

“The primary objective of this credit union is to provide home improvement loans to help improve the housing stock in the area. When you look at the area the housing stock is not the best even though we have built new homes. We’ll have to look at the existing home and provide the opportunity for them to get easy access to money so that they can repair their homes. Obviously they will have to repay the loans, it’s not going to be a gift.”

  1. Hon. Gaston Browne ( PRIME MINISTER) I listened to you on POINTE FM last evening that THREE HOURS were very OPTIMISTIC , VERY INFORMATIVE and UPLIFTING. You are a Man for the ANTIGUANS and BARBUDANS. As Hon. ASOT MICHAEL said on POINTE FM that your IQ is FAR above all previous LEADERS of Antigua and Barbuda. You can think on your feet. Look at the TRANSFORMATION that is taking place at BOOBY ALLEY. When I heard you mentioned your plans for a CREDIT UNION within your CONSTITUENCY this is remarkable. Hon. Gaston Browne You are the best. Just concentrate along the path that the ALMIGHTY GOD has placed in your heart. Your love for Antiguans and Barbudans will PROPELLED Us to GREATNESS. BLESSINGS.

    • Welcome to another episode of NYAMCO IN THE Community.Where monies would be received without any public accountability.I am wondering, which one of the baby mama’s would be running this so called Box Money SCHEME.I could see this going bankrupt in a millisecond.Where many would take out loans and do not repay.

    • Another failed experiment announced by the top dawg. Fifty and counting this is laughable. Another election gimmick.

  2. I listened to the Leader of the OPPOSITION on OBSERVER Last week. When I heard JAMALE PRINGLE said that The UNEMPLOYMENT RATE in ANTIGUA / BARBUDA is 80% I laughed so loudly. Jamale need to study ECONOMICS 101. I am ASHAMED whenever this GUY opens His mouth because I Know He will utter FOOLISHNESS. UPP should teach this Guy about the FACTS of ANTIGUA and BARBUDA before going on Radio. People like CHARLES TABOR will defend JAMALE with His Foolish utterances. VERY SHAMEFUL.

  3. Where in the WORLD We will ever find another Prime Minister like Hon. Gaston Browne. I am 20 years Old. I shall call your office to arrange a meeting to discuss a business model that I have developed. Blessing Hon. Gaston Browne.

  4. Any English Teacher would observe that “From Pointe/Villa”, “Slan”, “Phillip G” and “Sullivan P.” are one and the same blogger. Wonder how much he/she is being paid to heap praise on Gaston.

This is why people should be careful with Gaston, as he consistently adopts tatics used by dictators (Stalin, Hitler, Putin, Mao etc.) and wannabe despots like Trump to boost his public image, so that they can control a gullible public. You better tek warning.

  5. Information out of Trinidad states that there are many Antiguan students who are still stranded there and would love to get home. As of Saturday 22, August, it has been reported that the students on their own; as well as with family assistance, are trying to come up with USD $21 700.00 to charter a private plane to get to Antigua.
Trinidad & Tobago borders have been closed for several months now and the likelihood is that they will remain close for the remainder of 2020.

Many of the students do have return tickets ( to Antigua) with Caribbean Airlines. However, CAL is only doing selective flights to certain countries. So far Antigua has not been included as one of their destinations.

I am calling on the powers that are in Antigua and Barbuda, to assist in helping to bring our children in Trinidad to their families here in Antigua. These students have been stranded in Trinidad since March. Many are now without any sort of financial capability to continue payment for accommodations and purchase food.
PLEASE HELP OUR NATION’S STUDENTS IN TRINIDAD !

  6. PHILLIP G. even if you are a lone blogger, you know what FLY THE RED FLAG HIGH said is the truth. Their are many bloggers on ANR using different aliases to disseminate the ABLP propaganda. Sometimes the language and phrases they use are so similar you wonder why they are not smart enough to disguise the oneness of their identity. When I saw the name FLY THE RED FLAG HIGH I thought it was one of the ABLP supporters, but after I read the comment I saw that it was not and that the writer was just being sarcastic.

    • And what turns on that if such is the case. How about the deception on the current slate of UPP recruits pretending they had no interest in politics. Isn’t that a bigger travesty!

      • Charles Tabor is one to talk. He won’t acknowldge that but rather deflect and talk about ABLP bunch of crooks!

  7. @PHILLIP G. HOW DOES A PERSON SPEAKS FROM THE HEART?IS IT THE SAME AS SPEAKING FROM YOUR BACKSIDES.JUST ASKING.

  8. Gaston Browne are you shaking business people down? You are saying how much you would like them to give. Before you discuss this matter with them.

  9. Sometimes is best not say anything… Give the PM some credit for trying to uplifting his constituencients. Every thing is not about your Naysayers Political tribalism. When it’s good the people will benefit.

  10. @Colombo Thomas: You say give the PM some credit. For what? It is an idea.An idea is not worth anything. The end results of that idea is what matters. Then you could give him credit or not.

  11. Clearly, the PM is a man who thinks out of the box….. Now, who in their wildest dreams would think of such of a great initiative, to start a credit union in their constituency…. It is evident that the Villa/Point community is now leading from the front……. I wish other representatives can follow in the PM’s footsteps and begin to think outside of the box in order to enhance the lives of persons involved their communities and moreso a well known community ×is within the St. Johns area.

  12. @Colombo. How about asking for timeline and specifics? The time is long gone when people should get over excited by mere words spiken.

  13. @ ZACKIE
Everytime you raise your head is a criticism of the Government….I hope you are Self Employed.

    • @A.GARRISON. Not sure what to make of your last statement. I suppose that the need for a red bag of ramen noodles and vienna sausages mean that one should go hungry if one criticizes the govt. However, it is up to you supporters you hold your party accountable to do better but since you do nothing but heap ridiculous praise, I deem my criticizm national duty.

  14. Can’t you think for yourself? You have to wait on somebody to say this for you to run and grab it as if it was your suggestion from beginning?
