PM visits AG in hospital

Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin received a visit from Prime Minister Gaston Browne this afternoon in hospital where he remains two days after being admitted for a blood clot.

Benjamin – a familiar face on the local political scene for almost 40 years – spoke to Observer Media this morning to confirm that he was recuperating.

Browne’s chief of staff Lionel Hurst says the latest reports were that Benjamin remained in good spirits and doing well.

Blood clots can be highly dangerous as they can break loose and travel through the veins to the heart or lungs causing a life-threatening condition.

They are particularly likely to affect people over the age of 65. Risk factors also include obesity, being sedentary for long periods of time, and family history.

Benjamin said he had requested a thorough medical assessment before leaving Mount St John’s Medical Centre.

Benjamin – who is also minister of public safety and labour – has held the St John’s City South seat since 1994.

  1. Gaston Browne visited Cutie Benjamin in the Hospital. Is this really headline news.So how many Antiguans and Barbudans were laid off today.I heard that a Hotel,Carlisle Bay, laid off 200 employees.

  2. A speedy recovery to my friend and former work colleague at the Labour Department. Good to see the Prime Minister paid you a visit which was expected and is just normal courtesy and civility. I hope therefore that FROM THE SIDELINE don’t use the Prime Minister’s visit to underscore his mantra of “Leadership Matters.”

    • Leadership really matters. But I am glad to see that you wrote this kind words to my friend Cutie. But couldn’t resist to comment on the PM’s action.
I have however called upon the PM to have the Sir Molwyn put together a wellness program for all his cabinet member since the first time Cutie was hospitalized. Cutie lives a very unhealthy lifestyle. And his people always prepare him nice things to eat, which they bring for him to his office. I sat once in his office and couldn’t believe how much this guy was eating and no exercise. About year ago he had started working out at the gym at the Defense Force, but he didn’t keep it up. Our elected officials just like in the USA need to keep more focus on their health. In the USA capital all the congress members have access to the private gym, which is only for them for security reasons. That is why no matter their age they all looking fit.
Sir Molwyn is also minister of Wellness. He should start with his colleagues

  3. Get well soon Cutie.

The Honorable Minister Steadroy Benjamin has earned his first bit of respect from me.

One question though was it by choice or because he has no choices. School children say he cannot or will not or refuse to travel to certain destinations, Asot was not as clever.

Imagine a government’s minister laid up at Mount StJohn’s? Unheard of……

No private clinic, no air ambulance, no private doctor. The same process as Joe Blow. Wow

Mr Benjamin Caribbean Airlines fly’s direct to Cuba so you have options now.
