Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called on other countries to emulate the relationship between Antigua and Barbuda and China, citing what he described as mutual respect and cooperation.
Speaking at celebrations marking the Chinese New Year, Mr Browne said China had shown how powerful nations should engage with smaller states, noting that Beijing has imposed no sanctions or visa restrictions on Antigua and Barbuda.
He highlighted the two countries’ diplomatic ties, pointing to China’s support for cultural exchanges, education and people-to-people links, including opportunities for Antiguans and Barbudans to study and travel there.
Mr Browne said China’s approach should serve as a model for international relations, particularly in an increasingly unstable global environment. He reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s foreign policy stance of being “friends of all, enemies of none,” while stressing the importance of continued cooperation with China.

The fact that the other ABLP elected officials did not silence ABLP PM Gaston Browne from making these kinds of speeches show they should not be elected and not competent enough or care enough to vote a no confidence in ABLP PM Browne so he is no longer the leader for ABLP. ABLP PM Gaston Browne has done enough for me to say and reasonably believe he should not be the political leader of the ABLP and definitely not for the country.

Whether it is the United States or China, we have to quit believing that their assistance comes out of love with no strings attached. China’s help comes with the conditions that whatever they build has to be with Chinese companies and Chinese labourers.. So, if there’s a project to build a deep water port in the country, or apartments in Point, China insist that their labourers must build it. It is a strategic move. Another thing is what is called the “debt trap”, in which China lends money in what appears to be very favorable conditions and when the project fails (financially) or the debt cannot be repaid, China says “no problem, we will take it over.
Search about a port project in Sri-Lanka or multiple projects in Africa in which China ended up with valuable infrastructure and natural resources. China would continue to lend Caribbean countries money because their longterm strategy is to take over these countries and the US is well aware of it. So while we boast and brag about our partnership with China, we are actually digging a hole for our country and its citizens and the future generation. Very soon our country would be celebrating Chinese New Year as part of our calendar of events.
