Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s Week-Long Visit to China Strengthens Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda recently concluded a highly productive week-long visit to China, from January 22 to 28, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Zhang Yanling, emphasized that the visit showcased the “new height, new heat, and new breadth” of the relationship between the two nations.

The prime minister’s itinerary was packed with crucial engagements, including meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Le Chang. During these discussions, both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening ties and addressing mutual concerns. President Xi Jinping referred to Prime Minister Browne as a “true friend of the Chinese people,” while Browne conveyed Antigua and Barbuda’s willingness to be China’s most reliable partner, commending China’s unparalleled leadership in promoting world peace and development.

“The schedule of the visit is a very busy one, reflecting the vitality of the bilateral relations between China and Antigua and Barbuda,” stated Ambassador Zhang Yanling. The multifaceted visit encompassed not only high-level talks in Beijing but also visits to Jam Province and Shanghai, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the diplomatic engagement.

New Heights in Relations

The visit reached new heights, symbolized by the high-profile meetings between leaders. Prime Minister Browne’s interactions with President Xi Jinping, Premier Le Chang, and Chairman Jala G were instrumental in elevating bilateral relations. Both sides engaged in constructive dialogue on various issues, further solidifying their friendship and cooperation.

New Heat – Diplomatic Prowess

Antigua and Barbuda holds the distinction of being the first country in the Eastern Caribbean region to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China. Prime Minister Browne’s visit marked a significant diplomatic milestone, being the first Latin American and Caribbean leader to visit China in the new year. The warmth of relations was noted by the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service, describing the weather in Beijing as chilly but underlining the warm relations between the two nations.

New Breadth of Cooperation

The breadth of cooperation was evident in the signing of numerous agreements covering a wide array of areas, including the Belt and Road Initiative, economic development, trade, transportation, climate change, and visa exemptions. The signed cooperation documents have not only elevated the relationship to new heights but also expanded the scope of collaboration in various fields.

Ambassador Zhang highlighted the profound friendship and close relations between the two sides, emphasizing that the cooperation agreements signed during the visit underscore the significant emphasis on bilateral trade.

Prospects for Bilateral Trade

The agreements signed during Prime Minister Browne’s visit have laid the groundwork for substantial cooperation between China and Antigua and Barbuda. With a focus on the Belt and Road Initiative and global development, both nations are poised to explore new avenues in areas such as new energy, medicine, artificial intelligence, and environmental protection.

To facilitate future bilateral trade, macro-level coordination of policies has been prioritized. The economic and trade development agreement signed during the visit serves as an institutional guarantee for promoting bilateral trade. Additionally, efforts will be made to leverage existing platforms for enhanced cooperation.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s visit to China has not only strengthened the high-level relations between the two countries but has also laid the foundation for comprehensive cooperation across diverse sectors.

  1. It’s propaganda just propaganda. What else go we expect the Chinese spy to say? Gaston is giving Antigua and Barbuda to all foreigners on a silver platter.
    Chinese propaganda at best.

    • Where there is a puppet there is a puppeteer, it follows. The high praises dished out by the Ambassador; “new height, new heat, and new breadth” of the relationship between the two nations” blah blah blah, is reminiscent of the Ambassador’s gushing praise heaped on Gaston Browne when she exhorted Antiguans of both parties to greet him on his return from China with praises for his achievements on his visit there. Which planet is the Ambassador living on? Surely not planet Earth. Incidentally, what’s this ‘new heat’ she mentioned all about? I’m beginning to think all sorts of things but never mind. Now the tumult and shouting has almost died down what are the good folk of Antigua and Barbuda to make of PM Browne’s visit to China? Briefly, the Chinese seem to have covered most of the transportation costs, oh dear, what a surprise and got exactly what they wanted from their puppet. Well not all really, as we are in hock to China and have been for a long time; we cannot repay China the various loans we have taken, no ifs or buts, so the puppet must dance to the tune of its master and don’t you forget it. Antigua and Barbuda has been sold lock, stock and barrel to China and no amount of fancy
packaging can alter that fact for it is indeed a fact. There is however a factor that is sleeping with its eyes wide open, it isn’t really sleeping though, maybe just skinning a cat with the WTO compensation. As the saying goes, “there is more than one way to skin a cat”. Pause for thought.

    • Well, the thing about it, you yourself have been brainwashed with propaganda. The thing is, if the Prime Minister had visited the USA and signed 50 agreements, most of the people here would not have any issues – it would be all positive. But with China, it is all negative – and that is because of the propaganda that have been spread about China.

But let us face the reality in simple terms. Antigua is a small developing state and we lack resources. The USA has not been helping our region and China is willing to do so. We just have to ensure that our leader be wise in negotiations. Remember, they are mutual agreements and hence any country giving help also expects something in return.

      • @JBF…Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA “have no resources,” is this what you’re contending?

A…AQUACULTURE relies on the sea for the most part. It’s one of the fastest growing industries, as it pertains to food and food supply. Does tge Nations nautical miles mean anything, as it pertains to resources?

B…let’s not even add the millionaires which our ocean front properties have made over the years. Speaking of America, ask SANDALS MANAGEMENT why for the past Thirty(30) plus years, their billboards with their ads strewn across North America said, #SANDALS ANTIGUA?

C…antioxidant is the new buzz word when it comes to preventative medicine(s); and, every indigenous fruit on our shores from seaside grapes to the blossoms on the tamarind tree falls in this category!

D…the HEMP INDUSTRY[food to lumber to materials] should be to Us, in these times like cotton and sugarcane were to the BRITISH, which helped to replenish, their empty coffers in the 18th – 20th Centuries.

Regarding, signing agreements similar agreement(s) with the USA, and no one would object; as Mr. T would say, “I pity the fool.” It’s not about “signing agreements,” it’s about the TRANSPARENT NATURE, of these agreements, not who they are signed with.

I can guarantee you, if you or anyone did an informal or even a scientific survey, and ask Antiguans & Barbudans, to choose which Nation they’d prefer to become a Naturalised Citizen of, AMERICA or CHINA, and the vast majority would choose USA.

The USA has issues no doubt, but at the very least, you can navigate through the judicial system and the business world far more easier, than you can in China.

      • @JBF.
You made a poor start. No one can brainwash me; I read, listen and think for myself and come to my own conclusion.
        1. I cannot envisage the USA signing 50 MOUs with Antigua and Barbuda, can you? Therein lies the relationship between puppet and puppeteer, Antigua and China. What is the negative propaganda spread about China? You didn’t elaborate. Antigua is a tiny with little or no resources, absolutely true, so what is the so-called bi-lateral trade about? Explain.
        2. The USA has not helped us but China has. Could be the USA doesn’t fancy giving its citizens’ tax dollars to corrupt states with a long history of corruption. That’s worth thinking about.

  2. Very very soon, we will not be able to congregate, whether it’s to demonstrate, picket or just to hang out and all talk shows on radio will be suppressed with the exception of a select few. Ofcourse, he didn’t tell us that he also observed how the media is being controlled. The new prison that they planned for is going to be the residence for dissidents where visits will not be encouraged. Coming soon.

    • You’re on the ball. Of all the agreements and MOUs signed by our ‘ Visionary’ leader, the one I find most disturbing is the linkup between ABS and China Media Group. Whoever thought this one up surely has something not in the best interests of Antiguans and Barbudans in mind. No criticism of our puppeteer will be allowed and if you dare to do so then you will be in big trouble. Could I be wrong? I hope so for the sake of my fellow Antiguans and Barbudans. Not holding my breath though.

  3. The Chinese are fleeing China in droves, as they attempt to get to greener pastures; therefore, as the front/chief PROPAGANDIST for the People’s Republic of China and the fact, that the Gaston Browne Administration is allowing China, to set up a base camp in Antigua & Barbuda, the Chinese Ambassador comments should be expected.

The USA is now reporting, that the Chinese are the fastest growing MIGRANT POPULATION, attempting, to cross into the USA through its southern borders.

At times, I vibe on the fact(s), that the behavior(s) of the Government of Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA can possibly be likened to, the behaviours of those AFRICANS #WHO’RE responsible, for selling, trading and batering their fellow AFRICANS to the EUROPEANS for trinkets during the Transatlantic Slave Trade from the 15th Century onwards.

Anyway, Antiguans, Barbudans bout not so much, the way plants and animals on REDONDA, gird your loins, prepare for other battles; because, fentanyl and opioids availability and use will be on the increase[this epidemic will make the CRACK/COCAINE era of the 1980’s to Present look like cream puff].

The Nation is already being saturated with illegal guns and ammo.[it would be great if law enforcement can provide the stats, as they pertain to where these guns and ammunition which they’re confiscating are manufactured].

The FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN, and unregulated household products will now be under the control, of the Chinese. Therefore, why wouldn’t the Chinese Ambassador to Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA be excited. She’s accomplishing her mission!

    #tic_toc! #tic_toc!
    Time will always tell.

  5. PM Browne commented on “China’s unparalleled leadership in promoting world peace and development “. Strange that there was no mention of China’s threats to take over Taiwan and their encroachment in the South China Sea?

  6. Maybe we should have an exchange program with the Chinese Police and put them in charge for a while. Chinese traffic cops on every corner. Let them run the prisons and have broadcast speakers in every village. Chinese to be taught in schools. We’ll soon be the economic powerhouse of the Caribbean !

  7. Me barn yah and me cyah get wan piece a land fuh build me house.

Wonder how much she get and where in the cushy part of Antigua she get it?

GASTON, GASTON, YUH PUSHING PEOPLE TOO FAR. NOT ALL AH WE COWARD AND FOOLY.

  8. this is a clear display of massa telling the house slave and puppet leader that you are a good and faithful servant to China’s interest.
    ignorance is bliss

  9. Prime Minister Browne and his administration gives away more of Antigua to China. Thousands of passports sold, lots of lands given away while my CHAPA land and house application sits in a pile for the last 4 years. Rich and wealthy persons getting all the concessions on imports while my car sits at customs because I can’t get a duty free which I’m entitled to even once so have to find the funds to pay the ridiculous fess and percentages that go into an individuals pocket but not to the treasury.
