The country’s leader is calling on the nation’s youth to put down their guns in the wake of a shooting incident in Cedar Grove last night which claimed the life of a pregnant young woman.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne on his Facebook page made the “clarion call on our deviant youth” to perpetrate to becoming productive members of society.

Browne also took the time to express condolences to the family of 20-year-old Xavier Thomas who, according to reports, was three months pregnant.

The PM called the incident, which occurred sometime after 9 pm, senseless and said young people must learn to settle their differences without violence.

“Those who are involved in gangs and the risky narcotics trade, should put an end to these destructive engagements and find productive things to do,” PM Browne’s message read.

Browne said the country will be in need of able-bodied youth to work in several areas, especially the construction sector, based on the rapid economic growth now being experienced.

He said, “We cannot afford to lose our most productive citizens, our youth through senseless criminal acts of violence.”

Two other people were injured during the drive-by shooting-Lawn “TI” Nicholas, 49, and 32-year-old Shane Matthew.
