Prime Minister Gaston Browne Updates Parliament on Lands in Cade’s Bay and Calalloo Cay

Prime Minister Gaston Browne provided an update on the status of lands at Calalloo Cay.

Addressing the honorable house, Browne clarified the government’s position and future plans for these areas, emphasizing the government’s ownership and development initiatives.

“Mr. Speaker, the land at Calalloo Cay, 30 acres in total, is owned 100% by the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda,” stated Browne.

He further explained that the government has yet to finalize its decision on the utilization of proceeds from the development of these lands. The options include repayment of debts or reinvestment into further development projects.

If the decision leans towards development, Browne mentioned plans to use the remaining proceeds, after settling all just debts associated with tto build a hotel at Calalloo Cay.

The Prime Minister emphasized a collaborative approach, inviting Antiguans and Barbudans to partner with the government in constructing a four-star resort in Calalloo Cay.

“Rest assured, the land is vested solely in the government of Antigua and Barbuda, and it is owned 100% by the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Browne reassured the members of parliament, particularly addressing the Member for All Saints East & St. Luke.

The proposed hotel at Calalloo Cay is expected to boost the local economy, create jobs, and enhance the tourism sector, reflecting the government’s strategic vision for sustainable development.

It is crazy that both Trevor Walker and Jamal Pringle, instead of debating and speaking towards a bill in the last Parliamentary sitting chose to threaten the Prime Minister about developing beach front land in their constituency. Actually they are both saying there will be public disobedience. But I hope Gaston Browne has learned from the Road Blockade when doing the Carlisle Bay development. With Kublai being used by the UPP as a pawn. Politics is to rule with and through the police in order to maintain LAW AND ORDER. So if any of them want to disturb LAW and ORDER just like during the Covid Lock Down. Do not hesitate to let the police do their job against anyone that thinks they can cause civil unrest.
