Prime Minister Gaston Browne says bar operators who do not avail themselves of the COVID-19 vaccine will not be allowed to operate.
He said the requirement may be criticised for being draconian but that it is necessary to protect the population.
Bars and gyms have been ordered closed since March 15, 2021. Browne reiterated his view that gatherings at bars contribute greatly to the spread of COVID-19.
The Prime Minster made his remarks while addressing the slow in momentum of the island’s vaccination programme.
He told Pointe FM that while some 200 persons were vaccinated at the public market today, the slow in momentum was expected.
So far, close to 29,000 people have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. The Prime Minister says he is confident the island will reach the 40,000 mark.
Browne advised residents that they should avail themselves of the vaccine as it may be a requirement based on the nature of their work and the things they want to do.

That was the first time I have been disappointed with our PMs comments. Normally he makes good sense even though sometimes he can be a bit rough.
Besides the forcing aspect of the vaccine and the individual rights to ones own body, the question is, what will forcing vaccine on the bar owners do? If the bar owners and even employees are vaccinated, they can still catch COVID and can still transmit it according all the reports from CDC AND WHO. Hence if bartenders become exposed, they can contract the virus and take it to their homes and circles. So what did we accomplish? The only thing, the bartenders should not become seriously sick but persons whom they pass it too could still become seriously I’ll.
I know the PM is anxious to open the country fully but Antigua cannot be immune by itself because once the country is open, there are new variants that will show up. This is why they never had a vaccine for the common flu, it mutates all the time.
We are aware that persons have had serious effects from the vaccines, including death. Who will be responsible if you force someone into it and they develop serious side effects? I also have a burning question, why is a COVID test so expensive but the vaccine is free?

It’s no different than traveling to certain Nations etc which mandates, that you must be vaccinated to enter.

What utter bullshit is this? Never believed that this revelation would have been made so soon. I was almost sure this draconian was going to come someday but not so soon.
