Prime Minister Gaston Browne has responded to what he says are growing calls for an immigration amnesty in Antigua and Barbuda.
Browne says he will propose the amnesty to his colleagues in Cabinet.
He was responding to this non-national who says she has been waiting for the amnesty.

PM you are on the right track going in the right direction……. Its not a bad idea….. There are many of these illegal immigrants who are evading our tax nets like Social Security, Medical Benefits etc…. Granting them an amnesty should only be done if they become registered at these establishments either as an employee or self employed.
Grant amnesty to people who live here legally over 7 yrs and have been paying the fair share of contributions in taxes. I know ppl who lived here over 10yrs legally and cant get citizenship because they didn’t pay previous amnesty for gaps in their passport, yet others lived less than the required 7, waving around Antigua passport

Trying to win votes at the next election. I think that our small islands have enough people some of whom are hardened criminals living here. I think that they should be deported instead of giving them amnesty. It should not be.allowed.
