PM Confirms Minister Daryll Matthew Is Developing 15–20 Room Hotel
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has publicly confirmed that Minister Daryll Matthew is constructing a small hotel, defending the project and saying there is “no conflict” in a Cabinet member investing in the tourism sector.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show, Browne said the development is already underway.
“There’s a development there already. I see that. A little hotel. I see that,” he said, before revealing that the project belongs to his colleague.
Minister Matthew has taken the decision to build out a little hotel here, probably a 15- or 20-room hotel.”
Browne said Matthew had followed the rules and paid the fair market price for the land, adding that the Cabinet supports the initiative. “There’s no conflict here in the sense that he has performed,” he said.
“Even If it’s government lands and he’s paying the fair price as established, and he wants to do another project, we will certainly support him.”
The prime minister criticized assumptions that any investment by a public official amounts to wrongdoing. “The tendency of our people, as soon as they see anybody in the cabinet making an investment, oh, it’s corruption,” he said.
Browne said the hotel is part of a broader wave of private-sector activity and expansion in the tourism industry, which has seen increased interest in boutique properties and mid-size developments.
The PM did not provide a construction timeline for the hotel, but said Matthew has Cabinet’s “continued support” for the project.

This is getting quite ridiculous now! The Members of Browne’s cabinet have obviously been briefed to talk about anything else but the vehicle acquisitions procurement scandal, so that in time they hope that this serious breach will disappear and no independent investigation will EVER take place.

Imagine if the oppurtunitu was used by the government officials to encourage the general public to invest instead of the insider information used to push the MP into acting. I have been pushing for the public to have an opportunity to invest in such projects but ABLP sees that as an opportunity for only MP ministers within the ABLP to invest. The appearance of no corruption is as important as no corruption.
You get easy access to land as MP, you pay fair market value as MP, with substantial salary while regular folks have zero access to these benefits the MP got.
The support the ABLP Minister is getting from the Prime Minister Gaston Browne, and the ABLP cabinet is evidence of corruption. Do you remember my request from PM Browne to simply request for government agencies to EXPEDITE the adjudication of my application for my business in which he said he will not help/support, now look at the help and support the ABLP PM Gaston Browne is giving to the ABLP MP Matthew for his private business and his ABLP PM Gaston Brown gives to his children’s business.

The very nature of their job would lead to speculation. That is why , in the interest of transparency and accountability all politicians and their inner circles must declare their assets to an independent Integrity Commission. If that is not done on an annual basis, whatever they do would always be subjected to speculation and claims of corruption. There are ways to avoid the negative claims. Our leaders just never adhere to the rules and many tries less than credible ways to conceal and hide their involvement in other things.
@Audley, what now needs to place in all workplaces is the implementation of proper guidelines, so that no misappropriation of company or public sector assets are incorrectly abused or misused.
For example in many European countries, not only do they have official company/public sector guidelines, but for some time “self audits” have been in place on a regular basis to ensure that all staff follow the strict work guidelines and practices to the letter. So when an independent audit eventually takes place, any anomalies are easily highlighted.
I suggest that maybe this could be a reason for not wanting an independent investigation into the vehicle acquisitions procurement.
Fraudulent practices take place when deceiving individuals or a nefarious group go against policy or company guidelines.
Hence, the current situation we now seem to be witnessing with the vehicle-gate misconduct where people in high office were left to do as they please, with no real checks or proper balances. Simple really!
The clock is ticking “gassy dread”.. you can’t run from the raft of God you and your chain gang AKA ABLP AND THE ATTACHED LINK”. You should Consider giving away most of your riches because this life is just a practice run then its forever and ever after… must be nice all of your crew turning into millionaires overnight.. must be nice .. but it’s only for a time because the CLOCK IS TICKING”.
