St. George Constituency Showdown: PM Predicts UPP’s Watts Will Lose Next Election
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed confidence that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) will reclaim the St. George constituency in the next general election, asserting that incumbent United Progressive Party (UPP) MP Algernon “Serpent” Watts is losing support among voters.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne claimed that residents of St. George have “already made up their minds” to vote Watts out, arguing that the first-time MP has not delivered on his campaign promises.
The prime minister suggested that Watts has distanced himself from constituents and lacks a concrete plan for development.
“He has turned his back on the people, and they have turned their backs on him,” Browne stated.
He further speculated that Watts may face pressure from within the UPP to step down before the next election, citing internal dissatisfaction within the opposition party.
The ABLP is currently in the process of selecting a candidate to contest the seat, with several party hopefuls emerging.
According to Browne, the party’s recent internal elections have drawn record turnout, signaling what he describes as a “renewal” within the Labour Party.
Watts won the St. George seat in the 2023 general elections, defeating ABLP’s Dean Jonas.
However, Browne contends that the political landscape has shifted, predicting that any candidate the Labour Party selects will have a strong chance of unseating him.
Watts has yet to publicly respond to the prime minister’s remarks.

You predicted water in 14 days. It’s more than 3650 days now. You predicted a power house. We are now a poorer house. You predicted 17-nil in the last elections. You were saved by a selfish DNA candidate. There you go again making more prediction. If the UPP got rid of the geriatric in City West and used a viable candidate you would be trembling. Why don’t you predict a proper beating for your party in the next elections once your implanted leader in the UPP is removed.
We hope that Joel Rayne will emerge the winner of the ABLP primary. Joel is the favourite ABLP Candidate. He will definitely bring home that seat to ABLP.
Still asking the Question Asot Micheal did before he was murdered. Where did your 30 million dollar riches come from all of a sudden??

Has the ABLP determined its candidate for the next general election in that area?
PM I have to say that I agree with you but not for the reason you’ve stated. Lets face it the election was close in 2023 and given the ingifhting in UPP less people will be inclined to go out and vote for them.
I think serpent is incompetent and not suitbale to be in parliament
Can someone tell me how he was elected in the first place?
I honestly think he should stepdown
PM some say your predictions from the last election fell short of the clean sweep you were predicting.
What if the UPP relaces him with George Wehner?
The issue is not about MP Algernon Watts about the entire UPP slate of candidates. Now, if the UPP does not deal with its present disunity and its crisis in leadership, then not only MP Watts seat will be difficult to win but all the other seats that the UPP currently hold. At the moment the leadership of the UPP is very delusional and also more unbelievable is their belief that because they came very close in the last general elections their performance in the next general elections will automatically be better. That is how delusional the UPP and its leadership is.
The issue is not about MP Algernon Watts but about the entire UPP slate of candidates
I predict by next election Antigua will still have water, electricity and road problems. I also predict that 500 homes will not be built and barbuda would not have gotten the hurricane relief money given to them by the man from Jumby bay.
