PM Looks Forward To Working With New President Of Guyana

2

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has written to His Excellency Mr Irfaan Ali, newly elected President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. Here is the letter of congratulations:

Dear President Ali

On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and on my own behalf, I congratulate you warmly on your election to the Presidency of Guyana.

Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda share a long history of cooperation, including as founder members of the Caribbean Free Trade Agreement at Dickenson Bay in Antigua in 1965 which led to the creation of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).  Antigua and Barbuda has also been a home to many Guyanese and persons of Guyanese heritage for decades.  Our two countries, therefore, share strong familial ties.  In our passionate commitment to regional integration, we have cooperated at many levels in the international community, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.  It is my fervent expectation that we will continue to work closely in our mutual interest and in the wider interest of CARICOM.

My Government is very pleased that the long delay in declaration of the Guyana general elections of March 2nd was brought to peaceful conclusion and we congratulate the people of Guyana and the political parties for the patience and restraint that they demonstrated.

As Guyana stands on the threshold of economic transformation, I wish you every success in your Presidency and in the stewardship of Guyana’s affairs, and I offer you my own and my Government’s support in the great cause of delivering prosperity to all the people of Guyana.

I look forward greatly to working with you.

Sincerely

Gaston Browne
Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda

  1. Long live Antigua – Guyana friendship and solidarity. The People have spoken. It’s great to see another democratic socialist government in the Caribbean. Forward Ever!

  2. Congrats to the new president!!!

Let’s hope that this president will strengthen more the diplomatic ties between Guyana & Antigua and give us the support we need especially when it comes to our economic institutions….

Antigua has been a home & a safe heaven for the Guyanese for several past decades.

Let us also hope that the discovery of their oil which has positively impacted upon their GDP do not get between us & them
