Prime Minister Gaston Browne has praised outgoing Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yanling as “an excellent and extraordinary diplomat” who strengthened ties between Antigua and Barbuda and China during her tenure.
Speaking at a farewell reception on Monday night, Browne commended Ambassador Zhang for her professionalism, humility, and leadership—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she helped secure vaccines and medical supplies from Beijing.
He credited her with advancing key development initiatives, including the Booby Alley Housing Redevelopment Project, and securing financial support for major international events such as the SIDS4 Conference and the OAS General Assembly.
“It’s not very often that we hold farewell receptions for ambassadors,” Browne said, “but this event speaks volumes about her impact and the affection she has earned.”
