Prime Minister Gaston Browne has commended Alden Crump, Director of Public Works, for his recent efforts to address long-standing concerns about road repairs and other infrastructure issues. Speaking on a public platform, Browne acknowledged past frustrations with Crump’s performance but highlighted a marked improvement in his commitment to duty.
Browne emphasized the significant resources allocated to the Public Works Department under Crump’s leadership, including $21 million worth of equipment, funds for additional hires, and resources for operational efficiency. Despite initial setbacks, Crump has reportedly stepped up his efforts, pushing his team to deliver results. Browne cited recent progress, such as road paving projects and improved responsiveness to community complaints.
Political Criticism and Allegations
Addressing allegations from opposition members, particularly Harold Lovell of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Browne refuted claims of procedural violations in handling Crump’s position. Browne accused Lovell of misinterpreting legal provisions related to public service appointments and gifts, asserting that his administration has consistently adhered to proper protocols.
Browne also criticized the opposition for past actions, including removing Crump from his role as director and reassigning him to a lesser position under the previous administration. He accused the UPP of spreading misinformation and using Crump’s situation for political gain.
Public Accountability and Leadership
The Prime Minister defended his decision to publicly call out Crump earlier this year, stating it was necessary to hold public officials accountable. Browne credited this approach with prompting Crump to align with government priorities and deliver tangible results, including mobilizing teams for road repairs and addressing complaints about neglected infrastructure.
“We must commend public servants when they perform,” Browne said, noting that Crump’s recent actions demonstrate a renewed dedication to his role. He also underscored the importance of holding public officials accountable, stating that such measures are critical to ensuring government initiatives are effectively implemented.
Acknowledging Challenges
Browne highlighted the broader challenges faced by the Public Works Department, including ongoing complaints about road conditions and the impact of delays on residents. He acknowledged the frustrations of citizens dealing with vehicle damage from potholes and reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing these issues.
In closing, the Prime Minister expressed optimism about the department’s trajectory under Crump’s renewed leadership and urged continued cooperation among public servants to meet national development goals.

Cuss him one minute, praise him the next while not one word of criticism for Mr Crump’s minister. I hope these labourites understand that this guy wants creative enrichment to be exclusive; it doesn’t apply to them.
Shape up or ship out was what he said. Crump chose to shape up, Zackie continues to be bitter. Kudos to Trump for embracing change
So what has he been doing all the years just collecting a salary and no output. Who is he accountable to? Just give me a bruk. This is truly a cartoon country.
Antigua is place that very mix up thank u j truth cause ur interview show even the famous Gaston up . Ridiculous !!!!!!
Soooooo we thanking himmmm now cause u diss him on the media
I really hate it here 😒
If he can be criticized when he is not performing, he can also be praised for improvement. Not so?
Shameless hypocrite what a man. Wow!
Ten man condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother. You can sell your mother land now on lower Church street to the Chineses. Make sure you take care of your special needs brother and don’t put him in a home. I will be watching.
Gaston BROWNE,TENMAN,AND THE LIKES.LET YOUR WORDS BE SOFT AND SWEET,JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE TO EAT THEM.FOR THOSE WORDS COULD TASTE LIKE GALL.
Crump is a lazy bump and a poor example for all his subordinates. His deputies are working full time on road construction privately. Internally Crump cannot find the most important piece of document that lands on his desk- contracts, tenders board decisions, cabinet decisions, documents to purchase materials locally and internationally . Anything he is given to sign off he looses.
His laziness is permanent and his greed is excessive. So to respond by the shape up or shift out threat will only last Antigua’s nine days news cycle. PM if this guy is going to stay in this post you will have to keep on threatening him, instead of praising him for this little reactiveness. In other words he will never be proactive, innovation or motivated. This type of leadership at PWD will not take us to a new level. Especially with a young inexperienced minister, he will always try to give a 6 for a 9 . Will never give proper advice but will always find excuses. I know this guy left , right and center. He was expecting that playing labourite would allow him to sleep and collect ….
Sometime you have to get hash in other to get things done, too many times tax payers money are being paid for nothing ,money is being pocketed and no work or not enough work to show and its been a num in the government instistute ,time for a change
Aldain Crump is in that position for himself and not about improving the infrastructure of the country. One lazy man! Government is who own the quarry aggregates and the asphalt, so what is Aldain Crump problem for not utilizing the materials and fix our roadways structures including the guttering drainage/culvert? All he does in sit in air conditioning office and drive around in air conditioning vehicle. Mr. Crump, put your civil engineering degree into practice. That what happens when a hires incompetent people who don’t know how to apply their degrees into physical practice. Government needs to stop hiring friends and start hiring people who has the country and its at heart. Another thing, ministers of government need to let the people do their job and stop interfering.
Mr Crump is the best Director Public Works ever had. Once the workers do their jobs and get the necessary resources, all will be well!
So the PM has to go on a radio program to send a message to someone that works for the government? Why not just call him to his office and tell him to improve his act? Did he need public knowledge or support to do that?
This is all a big sham. I predicted that the DPO would fill a few potholes and pave a few roads and all would be forgotten. Well I was right, but didn’t expect him to be praised for finally showing up to work for 2 weeks after YEARS of dereliction of duty. That’s like shooting someone in the leg and getting praise for offering them a bottle of water. Antiguans, are we really going to fall for this? Any of you drive on All Saints road regularly? Crump, Maria and the PM have a long way to go before they receive any commendation from me concerning public infrastructure.
