Antigua will again be served by Nigerian airline Air Peace as the carrier prepares to resume once-monthly flights between Lagos and the Caribbean, with service to both Antigua and Barbados set to begin on May 24.
The route will be operated using a Boeing 777, marking a return of limited long-haul service linking West Africa and the Caribbean.
The planned schedule has drawn criticism from aviation observers, who argue that a single monthly flight offers little practical value for most travelers. Industry analyst Sean Mendis questioned the viability of the service, stating that such infrequent operations cannot effectively support tourism, business travel, or emergencies.
He also indicated that Air Peace threatened legal action after he publicly challenged the feasibility of the route.
The airline has defended the service, citing previous charter operations to Antigua and Barbados, as well as a past Lagos–Montego Bay flight, as evidence of demand for Africa-Caribbean connections.
However, critics maintain that demand between West Africa and the Caribbean remains limited, and that a once-monthly schedule restricts flexibility for passengers, particularly those requiring round-trip travel.
Operational concerns have also been raised, including how the airline would handle disruptions such as cancellations or diversions, given the long gap between flights. Questions have also been raised about the use of a large Boeing 777 for such infrequent service, with analysts noting the high fixed costs associated with operating wide-body aircraft.
Despite the concerns, the resumption of flights to Antigua and Barbados represents another attempt to establish a sustained air link between the Caribbean and the African continent.

Now you can understand why a flight that offers little to economic sense since it only flys once a month and not even year round is still happening. Money Laundering(Allegedly)
Well the intentions are good, but I doubt the business model is viable. We need governments to subsidize this adventure. Give the operator five year to built the business. If not I think this venture is doomed to fail.

I have many years of experience with Nigerian aviation “Experts” and their business practices were proven to be very unethical and corrupt. Be aware of all of their commitments and be sure to get the money escrowed up front.
This bridge must not be crossed until the education system in the Caribbean changes to reflect the true identity of Caribbean people.
Africans on the main land know who they are and will not treat Caribbean people as equals because they are yet to live their lives as Africans.
Caribbean people are camouflage Europeans. All their systems and cultural habits are a product of European dominance.
