Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed shock and disbelief over the tragic death of two young people on this date, in the Villa Area community. The circumstances leading to their deaths is not yet determined by the Police. Gunshots were fired, fatally injuring the two teenagers who were on the street at the time.

The Prime Minister visited the scene where family members of the deceased gathered, offering comfort and assurances to those who mourned the loss of their loved-ones. The crime scene was isolated by the Police as more neighbours and curious on-lookers gathered at the Villa Area Street.
Violence as a means of addressing disputes is unacceptable, the Prime Minister repeated, taking into account that firearms and a knife have been used to inflict fatal injuries on the victims of murder recorded this year. Social peace is a value which the entire nation holds in very high regard, and the Prime Minister continues to encourage all to find solutions to disagreements that exclude violent means.

As soon as law enforcement has established the circumstances leading to the deaths of the two youth, it will be shared with the public. The Prime Minister expresses his sympathies to the families of both victims, to the friends, and to the residents of the St. John’s City West Constituency who all share the pain of this tragedy.

Prime Minister Browne, this must now be more than words of condolences, but a call for action from you and the relevant security authorities.
With the utmost respect, if you can put security forces on our streets in the past (as in August 2021), then putting the police on our streets to protect all of us must now be the priority.
And furthermore, when you’ve tackled this initiative, then speak to your colleague the Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin to tackle the lenient sentencing of gun related crimes.
Remember, priority TWO follows on from priority ONE…
It is time for the police to be equipped with tactical vehicles that will show that Antigua and Barbuda is serious about crime prevention. Instead of seeking loans and grants for more hotels to which in my opinion we have enough ask for investment in combating crime. Also use the investments from Cip to build a new penal facility. These tactical vehicles to patrol high crime areas 24/7 in addition to regular patrols. Let’s be proactive a d not reactive. Few years ago after the gruesome murder of a teenage girl down at runaway beach our responsibility se to that was to purchase a gunboat. What purpose does that serve to crimes being committed on land. The monies used there could have gotten a few of the tactical vehicles I mentioned. In the late 70’s a d early it’s the police had a large truck called KONG which was used to dispel student demonstrators who were protesting the removal of their beloved principals. That truck scared everyone once they say KONG IS coming. That is what is needed. To the families of the two deceased teenagers I offer deepest and sincerest condolences. May you doing strength in the coming days in hope that the police capture and arrest the perpetrators of this senseless killing.
I wonder how is it that some people for scoring political points would refuse to understand that the Prime Minister is not in-charge of the Police Force. There is a police commissioner in that position. And do they remember the three branches of our system of government. As the PM he can only call the COP to account. And when he is not pleased with the performance of the office he can ask for his resignation.
One would remember not to long ago we had the issue on young men in gangs ready to fight each other. It was this Prime Minister he came down from his high seat and brought those gangs together. First we saw them having a football match and then we saw them having many more functions together and shaking hands. Some took the offer to go to school, while others got employed. But that was the PM’s doing. Thereafter the community let these youth down. No support at all. And gangs were slowly formed again. One can therefore ask, where was the police. But where were you. The PM cannot be there all of the time. The churches did not developed programs for these young people to guide them. Society once again failed them. And now we want to point fingers. And of course the political hacks see a great opportunity. Blame it on the PM. Instead of coming with solutions that would work. Taking part of town-hall meetings and making those suggestion they did not. It’s like Monday morning Quarterbacking. We always know it all after the facts.
What has happened is very sad and tragic and should remind us that the problem with a section of our youth has not gone away. It is still there and we as a society need to pay attention. Because sooner or later it will be on our doorsteps.
Carnival is at our door and any parent that have children playing mass would want them to be safe. Bullets do not discriminate. It can be your son/daughter accidentally hit by these gun toting tugs. God forbid. Yes the police should take more responsibility in curbing crimes. Especially gun related crimes. The law makers have increased the penalties for these crimes and police have been given more transportations to do there job. What is their problem? What more do they need? Politicians can only pass laws and give money and tools to do the job. It is the police hierarchy that makes strategies to curb the crimes.
Stop blaming the politicians. Stop blaming the Prime Minister. You would not want him to be in charge of the police. He may jail all his political opponents. And when that happens, what then?
@Less We Forget then why wasn’t law enforcement allowed to do their job regarding the scandals and theft of vehicles at Public Works?
Why wasn’t Freeland arrested and charged for the monies and issues with the Port Auctions?
Who stop the investigations into the forgery of the PM signature?
Who encouraged the youths to get rid of their hot guns?
The UPP should make a video of that voice over and over, regard discarding the hot guns and the thump in the mouth. Poor Asot allegedly got stabbed and stabbed plus more stabbing until he was dead.
Heheheee, 🤣🤣🤣 @Less We Forget ‘fraid to call me out, ever since he compared Gaston Browne’s garbage collection stunt last year to Jesus’s washing of feet. The man needs serious help!
@Less We Forget, your credibility mash-up long time, just like the other ABLP looney tune @Faithful National #1.
Mind you I do admire your Testicular Fortitude 👍🏾
@THE HAUNT COMETH, Bravo …👏🏾
I can’t grasp why folks do not comprehend politicians control the agencies, they are the legislative and executives, who assign duties to heads of departments and can influence or press or direct or order these departments/agencies and their heads to act and do accordingly.
Why are we always making excuses for politicians for their failures? Why? Whyyyyyyyyy? Politicians even tell these heads not to do things timely or at all for their politicians perceived enemies.

We need to stop and require politicians to provide the highest standards of care to the public.
I have stopped arguing with stupid people and fools long time now. i do not want to be drag down to their level of stupidity.
The most famous quote regarding arguing with a fool is often attributed to Mark Twain: “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference”. Another popular version is: “Never argue with fools, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”
