PM Downplays Cabinet Squabble Over Housing Project

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has dismissed as “a little family dispute,” the public disagreement between two of his Cabinet ministers.

The disagreement arose between Works Minister Lennox Weston and Browne’s wife, Housing Minister Maria Bird Browne.

Weston criticised the slow pace of government’s flagship housing development programme saying that it should be handed over to his ministry.

Bird Browne responded almost immediately saying that over 300 houses have been completed and blamed the delay on the infrastructure which is not yet in place.

But Prime Minister Gaston Browne told his radio station over the weekend that the disagreement is “nothing serious.”

“I don’t think anyone believes there is a fundamental problem between the two ministers,” he told listeners.

“I think they spoke several times today and I think they will be doing a joint tour sometime next week so there is collaboration taking place,” he said.

“What we are seeing here is a diversity of views,” the prime minister added.

“What this would have done clearly, I think this would have helped to accelerate completion of the infrastructural work,” he said.

  1. More questions and answers needed. It is about time MPs start doing their job and stop feeling cowered by the PM. The government is not one man and his wife.
