PM does not support suggestions that woman in lewd video should be charged

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he does not support suggestions that a young woman, whose lewd dancing with a minor during the just concluded Carnival celebrations has been posted on social media, should face legal charges.

Speaking on his private radio station, Browne said while it is a situation of “poor judgement” on her part “what I was told the same little boy, in fact a bunch of them were literally cooping the women and wining up on them.

“I am not making an excuse for the lady because from the time she recognise that it is a child she should have disconti8nued,” Browne told radio listeners, adding he does not support the need for her to be prosecuted.

“Those who want to condemn her as though it was something deliberate, something planned and I don’t think it was planned, I think it happened spontaneously and she did not quite utilise the discretion that was required, recognising that it was a child.

“Again I am not making any excuse for her,” he said, noting “if I am allowed to look at it from a different perspective, if it was a male dancing with a female that age, well you know what would have been a major problem.

“So not because it was a female dancing with a youngster in a very lewd way it means that she must be excused. But I am saying that to say that poor discretion on her part, but I don’t know the issue of criminality and bringing charges against her… I do not know we need to go that far,” he added.

Festivals Minister Daryl Mathew also commented on the issue saying that while the video was ‘disturbing” lewd behaviour usually associated with the Carnival was at a minimal this year.

  1. Yes, she does need to be charged. Let the courts rule, and justice be done. No, she cannot be excused. The people of the nation will not agree to this.

      • Some think it looks like it could be a “pedophile” case, since a small child and a grown adult are involved in what is certainly not normal adult/child interaction. The charge would be up to the police, of course.

        • Podophilia, leave that charges for all the men and woman molesting there children and there partners children behind closed doors, Lewd behavior is what carnival is all about these days. The lady should have been more aware of what going on, not for nothing the little boy was acting like a tittle pervert .like the prime minister said the little perverts lay await waiting to wine-up on unsuspecting woman

      • @Steve:
In my opinion she should be charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.I did see two videos with adult females and children(boys) under the ages of 10 that were very disturbing to me.Those women should have been called into the Police and be spoken too even if Carnival is over. That crap should not be tolerated.

    • The Police and the DPP take their directions from the Top-Dog. Whatever the PM said goes in this little paradise of ours.

        • @Sidelines:I have a recording of the Prime Minister from Pointe FM.Where he did say the Police Reports to him.My guess,he was referring to the Police top brass. However, that is nothing new.The Police top brass is handpicked by the Prime Minister.Like picking cotton.

  2. Betcha if it was a grown man dancing on a little girl all of u two faced hyprocrites would be screaming LOCK HIM UP to inclued u to Mr PM talk about double standards.

  3. Chupit are you chupit. Bought charge go look for the killers. Want lock up the woman for a wine. Police just dunce.

  4. @ From The Sidelines of course he decides who gets prosecuted. during Freeland saga he was asked about it his comment was the money was repaid and its a dead issue.

    • And that was not a case where the police was involved in. It was an internal issue in the Customs Department. which got settled. The comptroller cannot on his own refer the matter to the police. He has a boss and his boss is the minister of finance. And in that capacity the PM spoke. And the case was settled amicably. This however is a public matter and the PM can voice his opinion but the Chief of Police is Independent as to whether he thinks he need to file charges or not. And you guys may have all kinds of wild theories but come with the proof when you make your assertions.

  5. This statement from the PM do not look good. It is sending wrong messages to our young and grown men out there. A disciplinary action should be taken against both the young lad and the woman.

  6. The PM made the right call here. Lock up the MP that on his second sexual assault and led the likable gyal loan. If police lock her up then the whole of insane myst and icons need to go up for lewd behavior also.
This is us, it is who we are.

  7. Dancing is not an offence, dancing in a provocative manner is not an offence either. Dancing with a child is not an offence, dancing with a child in a provocative manner is not an offence either its distasteful and should not be permitted.

I believe education is required here.
Sexual abuse is a general term for any type of sexual activity inflicted on a person.

Child abuse is when a child is intentionally harmed by another adult or child. It can be over a number of periods but can also be a one-off action.

The woman’s actions does not fit either criteria and However this does not excuse her. A recommendation of education is required for all persons adults and children what is appropriate and what is not.

Let’s educate people first, so then they become accountable for their actions.
