PM confirms Antigua’s 6th COVID-19 death

11

Antigua has recorded another COVID-19 related death, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced.

PM Browne: Unfortunately, we had another COVID fatality today. A 96 year old resident, who ostensibly contracted the virus from exposure to someone who travelled from the UK recently.

We continue to warn citizens and residents about exposing themselves and relatives to anyone who is not a member of their household, especially individuals who travelled from abroad.

The last COVID fatality was as a result of exposure from an imported case at a wedding. Six family members contracted the virus with one fatality and one was critically ill.

COVID is deadly; be vigilant and conform to the protocols and health regulations to protect yourselves and loved ones.

  1. Six family members????

I know for sure that at that said time and weeks after, those 6 cases weren’t added to the dashboard.

    Antiguans open your 👀….
    We’re been lied to. SMH

  2. The Ministry of Health did say that no one passed away from Covid-19.They chastised the On Line Portal for publishing that info last week. Now Gaston “Moses” Browne is confirming that same news.

    • Can you at least try to write some kind of sense? You make us all look dumb when you write like that. If no one died last week and the news agent reported a death, they were wrong. A death this week does not equal a death last week.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear of another loss. It is true that one person with symptomless Covid passes it on to 10 others. I hope everyone takes care of each other regardless of personal opinions. Surely we all want to keep those we love safe? Wear a mask keep distance and wash your hands. Hug each other from afar until we can overcome this. The statistics are odd on the island.

  4. This is a hypocritical statement . Almost all our tourist comes from high risk destinations, how can the PM saying to keep away from travellers from these high risk countries ,when our hotel workers are been exposed to them daily ? These workers also have families to go home too,and with that they will always be a high risk of catching the virus. These tourist aren’t tested on arrivals nor quarantine .we can’t have it both ways . Put serious protocols in place for all entering our shores ,testing quarantining and isolation when found to be positive .

    • Hotel workers are trained and tought to follow strict protocols. And that ain’t no joke. They are like frontline workers. They know they are coming in contact with tourists that may or may not have the virus, dispite the fact that they come with a negative test. Same way our immigration officers and others at the airport and taxi drivers are trained to follow strict Covid protocol. It seems that we have an issue with our family members returning home and not social distancing and or not wearing masks.

  5. Your isolation is your best protection at this time.
The UK is ‘live’ with the virus with an estimated 1 in 50 people carrying the bug.
    Yesterday 1564 people died.
Yesterday there were 47525 new cases
Yesterday there were 36489 covid beds occupied in hospitals
    Stay isolated and alive
