PM Browne warns Jack Stroll to leave him out of his battle with Global Bank

27

In a strongly-worded response to recent statements made by Jack Stroll, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has firmly rejected any notion of utilizing taxpayer funds to settle a dispute involving GBC (Global Banking Corporation).

Stroll had expressed frustration with the inability to withdraw his funds from the bank and suggested that legal action could have been avoided.

Prime Minister Browne, however, responded emphatically, stating, “Your expectation that our government should have stepped in and pay you US$13M with taxpayers’ money is unconscionable and wicked. The GOAB has no such fiduciary responsibility to you.”

He went on to clarify that neither he nor his administration has any regulatory authority, directorship, or shareholding in GBC. Furthermore, there is no outstanding liability or ownership interest that the government holds in the banking corporation.

Browne addressed the allegation that Stroll had repeatedly sought government intervention in his dispute with GBC, asserting, “My administration, unlike the UPP desperate MPs, will never give any such reckless undertaking to use taxpayers’ money to settle the amounts due to you from GBC. Your outlandish expectation for our government to assume the liability is a corrupt expectation.”

The Prime Minister stressed that the government has no contractual relationship with Stroll and does not owe him any funds. He made it clear that the administration will not be coerced into using taxpayers’ money to settle private debts, stating, “You will never receive a penny of taxpayers’ money to retire the GBC debt, provided my administration continues to govern this country. Not one red cent.”

In conclusion, Prime Minister Browne called on Stroll to cease and desist from bringing himself and the government into the public sphere regarding the private dispute with GBC. “Please be guided accordingly,” Browne remarked.

This strong statement reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and protecting taxpayers’ money from being used in what he perceives as an unwarranted and inappropriate manner. The dispute between Jack Stroll and GBC is likely to continue through legal channels without government intervention.

LETTER: Concern and disbelief regarding the Prime Minister’s statements, particularly his denial of governmental responsibility and regulatory authority over GBC

    • @Josh Handly. Ok. Then why would a govt ask that money be sent to that bank? What happen to the money if it crashes? Why would a PM get involved in a dispute between a customer and that bank? You seem to know a lot. Tell US!

      • Zackie are you a child? Take a domestic bank that’s regulated by ECCB , to your mind the ECCB is responsible for the bank if it fails? Government in the past have stepped in and helped to avoid contagion, but they can’t be forced legally to do so. Now you really expect them to same for an international {offshore)bank? What evidence do you have that government told Stroll to enter into biz with global bank?

        • @Tenman: Why did Gaston Browne in his capacity as Prime Minister cuss the customer of Global Bank. He did say the man is greedy. Why would he say that? He then went on to defend Stuart-Young. That he was not a crook. Why is Gaston so involved with Stuart-Young, our money and Global Bank. Does Global Bank operates like One Hour Martini-zing?

        • Tenman
Talk sense for a moment. Has anybody ever said that Gaston told Stroll to enter into business with Global Bank? The question is, why is he talking like a lying mad man when he as finance minister and the government had access to monies deposited by people in the bank.

        • @tenman. Don’t tell how my mind works; it’s quite fine. I am talking about a specific situation here. And, where did I suggest that govt told Stroll anything?
The point is govt needs to stop playing around with money placed in their trust.

  1. If gbc has liquidity or insolvency issues shouldn’t the regulators put it under receivership. If a bank can’t perform its banking duties is it really a functioning bank

  2. Wait! Is this the same PM Gaston Browne who said Jack Stroll’s deposits at GBC were tied up in “national development?”
Which nation? And who runs it, again?
And if the Government has nothing to do with the bank, why did he get involved in its defence, going as far as to call Stroll “greedy” and “politically motivated” for wanting to withdraw all his money?
… Anyway, is the CEO of Global Bank also off to China ahead of the January 26 date to meet Stroll in court?

      • Mis Isaac, you have your way of creating your own reality, pretty much like the MEGA folks. At the time the PM was speaking about a government T bill, that Stroll held and demanded it be redeemed before its maturity date

        • @ tellher and tenman coming on here to clean up the ”mess” and trying to convince us that FRAUD is NOT FRAUD……do you think we are stupid?
Go on quoting all the sections and clauses of the law as if that will remove YOU (Mr GB) from responsibility.

          • @Share Inc who is tenman? Always telling when persons can’t face the truth and need to believe a lie. Its so easy for us to watch the maga people in the US and see how they need to distort reality but can’t see speck in our own eye. Let me remind you that the FSRC 2013 act was passed, under UPP as a way to fix the issues raised by the Stanford scandal. You should have heard Lovell in his presentation when he spoke about the independence the act ensures the FSRC has. Now watch, many from his own party act like the Maga people. @Share Inc, running from reality is a sign of mental illness

“The MAGA movement is making otherwise mentally healthy people emotionally sick, and making ill people much worse. Like forcing a person suffering from Asthma into an enclosed space and making them exert themselves over and over without rest; surrounding them with every allergen and trigger their illness has—and with great joy, watching them gradually suffocate.” by John Pavlovitz

        • @tellher
Who the hell are you? Were the treasury bills issued to cover the man’s money taken from the bank? Please make sense you idiot.

  3. “utilizing taxpayer funds to settle a dispute involving GBC”. Wait, isn’t that what he has proposed in reference to the man who sent funds intended for Barbuda?

  4. Wow wow wow wow PM Brown just a matter of time our former Ambassador you are aware that he have some issues he was taken into Custody in the US he was released pending further inquiries does the name Oderbrech mean anything to you let me remind you that the Minial Bank operation Car Wash remember also in Barbuda that you said monies were returned I asked the question to you Sir too who Dishonorable Gentleman You made certain comment on Mr Lovell you said that he was the advisor to Cosroy I am aware that a sitting Head of State may have certain immunity from prosecution perhaps if they are involved in Drugs etc they be extradited but they are waiting on you Sir you see if it was Harold that matter would have been finished Rest assure that you will be in jail like Allan who have given you 300000 .00 you remember.Oh are you going to be like Julian Asange remember in England he stayed in an Embassy for years is it that’s why you have given those Lands to the Chinese to build the Embassy so you can get asylum or exile your self just a matter of time

  5. When you are the father of lies you have to have a good memory. This man try to portray as a perfect being but one day the lies will tie him up.

  6. This is a complete BS attempt to deflect the situation and change the narrative. No one asked the government to use government funds to settle the private dispute, because they already did! They issued Treasurey Bills for a private debt for a private bank. Insanity! When he talks about National Development Fund he is talking about Citizenship By Investment funds that are made to the “NDF”. Yes, Global Bank of Commerce is taking Citizenship By Investment funds on behald of the government. The Antiguan people will NEVER see these funds. How long are we going to sit around and let them take our money and destroy our country?

    • Well Highlighted @ Joseph Stevens.

Btw, I enjoyed reading your recent letter to the ANR editorial team. Outstanding and very relevant views to the Prime Minister’s and current government’s woes.

  7. Sue Gaston Sue! We dare you! We want you to sue him. Just imagine he’s Pearl and sue, sue his pants off him. Sue for defamation m!

  8. His lies are already tying him up. This idiot’s name is in everything now. His greed is finally catching up with him. The countdown is on.

  9. A customer of Global Bank could not get his money from said Bank. You Gaston went on the airwaves and chopped the man’s head off. You were defending Global Bank and Stuart-Young.You knew everything then. Now you do not know anything.Isn’t Stuart Young your high friend, Gaston. This story is damn shameful. It does not bode well for you as the Minister of Finance and your Administration.

  10. How can any reasonable person thinking as Prime Minister of a small island that he should be left alone and that he is not a vital part of the system?

This sounds exactly like what was told to me. I can not help you. Any matter that has national impact and substantial merit all people of authority is part of it, most importantly the Prime minister.

National importance can be determined by proposal, the impact, the amount of cash/assets, the kind of problem a solution is being sought for, etcetera. These things determines national importance and once within that realm, no decent PM or other government official in a small island could say leave him out of it.

If you say so as PM, you do not need to be PM. When a man comes to you with an idea of national importance, facilitate it. Help it, help the people. It is good politics and humanbeing

  11. A liar most times do not remember what he said in the past. We were told that Mr. Stroll funds were used for development of Antigua. We were also told that there was a loan from a certain hotel which would be transferred to mr. stroll. We were also told that the government would be issuing government bonds or some kind of financial instruments to mr. Stroll for the debt. We were told that mr. Stroll was greedy to want all his money at once.
Now after all this, this man who was so much involved in this bank transaction is saying he is not responsible? It is about time somebody sues this liar.
Why shouldn’t government funds be used to pay back the man’s money which you said was used for developing the country.
I tell Antiguans we are dealing with a dawg who is either crazy, a profound liar, or a scamp. Go sue, as all the recordings are there to bear witness. Antigua is not a real country as in a real country, this person would not be around.

  12. A Prime Minister should never be finance minister. Who will they answer to in parliament? They want to control the peoples resources so they can thief as much as they like. Only in banana republics this happens. Do you think any of the present government ministers dare question how Antigua money is spent and the financial decisions made. They would get a cussing and be exposed as part of the cabal.

  13. Looks to me like someone can’t stand the pressure. Is it soon time for confinement in a mental institution?
