Prime Minister Gaston Browne issued a strong appeal for safer driving after a series of crashes in recent days left multiple people injured and claimed the life of drag racer Jerome Marsh.
The call came during the Browne and Browne Show, where Donna Evergreen Shire first informed listeners of the fatal collision.
“There was a bad accident on Jonas Road, and one of the avid car racers passed,” Shire said. She added, “I just want to send my heartfelt condolences to the family, the friends, the drag racing community,” describing the crash images as “just so heart-wrenching.”
Shire identified the victim on air, saying, “Jerome Marsh is the young man’s name.” She also noted reports that Marsh’s son had been in the vehicle.
“I think they said he had a son, and the son was actually in the car, and the son is now in hospital,” she said.
Prime Minister Browne joined the appeal moments later. “I want to join you in extending condolences to the family members,” he said, referring to the recent collisions as “two heinous accidents in which we had two fatalities.”
Browne urged motorists—especially younger drivers—to slow down. “Again, we want to really appeal to our motorists to drive with caution. And to remind him that speed kills,” he said.
The prime minister noted additional serious crashes involving young people in recent days. “There’s another one that occurred with two teenagers. One of them picked up his mom’s car. My understanding now that he’s in intensive care unit,” he said. “So, within the last two to three days, we have had some serious car accidents.”
Browne warned that passengers also play a role in preventing reckless driving. “Some guys love to show off,” he said, adding that he personally would not ride with anyone driving at dangerous speeds.
The investigations into the crashes are ongoing.

Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that’s what gets you,”

Donna’s surname is spelt Chaia not Shire
DEEEEEFLECTION #3
Browne has rarely shown any real concerns in the past about bad driving and road safety.
An independent investigation into the vehicle acquisitions procurement scandal should also be prioritised to clear up the concerns of taxpaying Antiguans.
Drive safe folks 🙏🏾
Why so many people use dazzling high beams and something fog lamps at night ? Should not it be forbidden when there are cars in front of you?
The appeal for drivers to slow down and be careful is the right thing to say, but frankly the youth are not listening, they have lost all respect for politicians who say one thing and do the opposite. You all have got to be more upright
Thank you very much for dealing with this issue head-on and not sugar coating anything. Ah jive dem min dey ah jive farse!!
