PM Browne: UPP Attracting ‘Vagabonds and Criminals’

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has launched a scathing attack on the United Progressive Party (UPP), claiming the opposition is attracting individuals with questionable integrity.

Speaking on his Browne and Browne programme on Pointe FM, Browne said: “There’s literally a constellation of vagabonds and criminals that are literally coalescing within the UPP.”

He claimed the party was drawing in individuals “with that kind of integrity or lack of integrity for that matter,” adding: “It seems as though they’re attracting a particular type of people.”

Browne also questioned the credibility of UPP leadership, stating: “They know ordinarily that people would not vote for Pringle, but they may vote against the Labour Party based on all the lies.”

He criticised what he described as the intellectual dishonesty of the party’s supporters: “They are supporting the lies and peddling all the misinformation and disinformation because at the back of their minds they don’t feel that it is convenient for them to stand on the truth.”

The Prime Minister said that while some educated individuals remained in the opposition, “Those bright people know how to deflect their intelligence when it comes to filtering out the truth and the substance.”

He continued: “You cannot be bright, for example, and hang on to something like that. It’s a waste of time.”

Browne further described some UPP critics as “soft-minded,” referencing a recent social media post in which he sarcastically offered to donate the proceeds of the Alfa Nero sale to the opposition: “I said, you know, I’m feeling generous, that I’ll be donating the stolen Alfa $27 million [to] the United Progressive Party — they need it.”

Asserting that the opposition contributes little to governance, he added: “They don’t contribute anything to the Parliament.”

Browne also issued a broader defence of his administration: “You’re living in a country that is well-governed and people are making money.”

  1. All that might be true yet the Labour party only won by 4 to 6 votes the last showing. Make it make sense.
Likeability, though not the only matric in electing an official, is still an important component. More and more people don’t like this Prime Minister but he doesn’t get it!!! The echo chamber at Pointe FM is too loud in his ears!!

  2. @ Gaston Clown

You must be under so much pressure.

This is your modus operandi: Last election it was rapists and murderers, this time it’s vagabonds and criminals BUT YET STILL IT IS FROM THE SAME UPP YOU GET YOUR FEEDING GROUND.
    GASTON YOU ARE PATHETIC.

  3. Well, he does have a bit of a point. There have been many great candidates fielded by the upp in the past, but lately they seem to push persons with various criminal convictions etc. to the front as candidates and spokespersons. Their excuse is that the other side is thiefing money so that’s equal or worse. To many of us, crimes against the person are worse than crimes against the pocket. So, they lose credibility with that argument. People deserve a second chance but not every position should be available to previously convicted persons especially if they are unrepentant. Making decisions for the public good cannot be done by unrepentant criminals. So, politicians with tainted pasts should make it clear they have changed, not just in words but in actions e.g. regular donations to related causes such as women’s shelters. But would be best if they were not in the forefront as candidates and spokespersons. They can help their party from the behind the scenes.
