PM Browne Thanks Venezuela for Helping Reunite Missing Antiguan Woman with Her Family
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has publicly thanked Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Minister Raul for facilitating the return of Denise Odelia Charles, an Antiguan woman who had been missing for more than three decades.
“Thank you to Min Raul and President Maduro for assisting with transportation support to repatriate our missing National, Denise Charles, back to Antigua,” Browne wrote on social media.
Charles was reunited with her family on Tuesday in emotional scenes at VC Bird International Airport after spending 32 years and five months in Venezuela.
She arrived shortly after 10am aboard a private charter arranged by the Venezuelan government.
Greeting her on the tarmac were Prime Minister Browne, her brother Terrence Charles, and her nephew Tishorn Watson, who had also travelled to Venezuela for the reunion.
Browne, who played a key role in coordinating her return, described the moment as an incredible outcome and commended the family’s unwavering resilience.
He said Charles’s story is a powerful reminder for Antiguans and Barbudans to remain hopeful, no matter how much time has passed.
Charles is expected to share more about her journey and the circumstances behind her prolonged absence in the coming weeks.

In the real world, not only would this be a huge welcome home reunion, but we would have seen chairs, podium, 🎤 mics and a Press Co seated, fully prepared, just waiting to ask the many questions they have jotted down on their note pads.
In Wadadli we do things different and just like the numbers of young females that often go missing and turn up a few weeks later, it’s none of your business or it’s between her and family and now the big one give her time, when she is ready she will tell it all.
After 32yrs, no way we can research back to find out if a missing person report was issued, so this is one strange story. She speaks fluent Spanish so was she schooled and as for the profile story by her sister didn’t this cross your mind ten years ago? then after you realized it’s your sister how did these two governments got involved.
Welcome back to your homeland my dear, at the same time let’s hope the same resources are used to find, investigate or rescue the others who have gone missing even more recently.
How did she end up in Venezuela? Was she kidnapped? Did she run, walk fly or swim? When was she reported missing from antigua? Why is the PM and the Venezuelan so deeply involved in this case after 32 years? I guess for now there are many more questions than answers.
