Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued an immediate response to the Antigua and Barbuda Bar Association.

He said:

Look at this idiocy.

We have one of our most significant national security challenges on our hands. Instead of joining the fight by encouraging stricter sentences and the ending of routine bail for gun crimes; these “weak knee,” apologetics are seeking to score skewed intellectual points at the expense of the safety and security of our people.

They are literally giving comfort to criminals. SMDBH.

If you want respect from the people, institute stricter sentencing and work with law enforcement to deny bail, when these criminals represent a threat to the society.

The ugly truth offends, but I will always stand on the truth in defense of our nation and its people. A responsibility from which I shall not shirnk, irrespective of the consequences.

I took a parliamentary oath to speak without fear or favor.

This is not autocratic leadership, it’s fearless leadership, playing my part in soliciting the full support and commitment of all stakeholders against crime and violence.

Sentencing guidelines must be realigned to deal with crime and violence which is now a public health epidemic.

I said what I said.

Come for me !

  1. This Prime Minister is an IDIOT (in my opinion).

It is his government that has this country in the state it is in. It is his government that has passed laws to ‘guide young people’.

The majority of the people in this country are getting what they deserve because it was them who elected this IDIOT GOVERNMENT.

Tek um, and more I hope, in are you nen nen.

  2. “….with crime and violence which is now a public health epidemic.”

So is wire fraud, embezzlement, identity fraud, money laundering and public corruption. MONEY!

You want to send a message and quell some of crime and violence. Put the WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALS under pressure. Bring them to justice and let’s see how the magistrates and judges deal with them.

After all, they too leave countless victims in their wake.

  3. Pound dem, Gaston. Forward.

And if they get yuh vex, start do what you do on rum joint radio. Start calling names about who get what. None ah dem coming fuh yuh. Tarl, they fraid.

Side note to the Bar boys: You can’t do him a ting. His pockets are full of you all

  4. Why does he sat these dumb things. The fight for stricter punishment only occurs in the legislative and executive branch by making laws with increase punishment that includes mandatory minimums. The court must decide bases on the facts.

It is ignorant you will say as PM the Bar should join with him in blaming the court, as that is the only fight he mentioned and intelligent people are at issue with.

Most responsibility for crime prevention, reduction, solution, deterrence etcetera are with the executive and legislative branch. The court have no failing that is comparable to the horrific failing of an executive and legislative branch of a government.

What he is saying is only making him look highly unintelligent and incompetent. STOP THIS POINT NOW PRIME MINISTER BROWN. STOP, STOP IT.

  5. This buffoon PM has demonstrated more significantly that he is unhinged. Has he forgotten that it was him who told his cabinet ministers to thief as much as they can, it was him who publicly demonstrated that physical violence is acceptable.

He is yet to condemned the actions and involvement of one of his junior minister who attempted to lean on the postmaster to allow illegal drugs to enter the country to cause further misery.

Why has he not encouraged the police to bring charges against Dewayne and his accomplice? Why has he not informed the nation of his proposals of his plans to clean up areas of his consistency, where residents continually lived in squalid and depraved conditions and the same could be said for his wife’s consistency? Incidentally, the two worse areas where drugs, gun and prostitution crimes are committed is common to him and his wife.
Dwayne’s attempts to lean on the postmaster is an indication that politicians, civil servants are involved in the propagation of drugs and gun crime.

The buffoon needs to tell us of his proposed plan of bringing an end of corruption and poverty, these factors largely contributed to the current mess that the country is in

  6. IN A WAR OF WORDS THIS MAN IS SECOND TO NONE. THE PM OF ANTIGUA STANDS AS THE APEX, SUPREME…EVEN MIKE TYSON WOULD NOT ARGUE WITH THIS MAN

  7. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, but what I do know is that both the judiciary and the ABLP better sort themselves out and come to an agreement on moving forward in unison (I nearly wrote lockstep😁).

At present both sides are to blame.

Prime Minister Browne has dragged his feet, and he’s perceived as a reactive person than proactive one – hence the problems in dealing with the current crime wave.

The judiciary for some odd reason have court cases piling on court cases that seem to dragging on for infinitum (and also some sentencing seems very lenient to the lay person, let alone the PM). I’m sure that I’ve even read cases being delayed and postponed due to the fact that the court building(s) were in need of repair and terrible odours emanating out as well. Mercy!

One thing I do know though, it is long overdue for me to replenish my stock in popcorn🍿, beers 🍺🍺 and then on the way home, buy my favourite dish of bullfoot soup🥣. Hmmmm, delectable …

  8. Stop it PM. You can’t fight war with war. Stop that bad man mentally and set a good example to these young guys.
