The Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport last night.
He was received by Prime Minister, Honourable Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, accompanied by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Honourable Nigel Dharamlall.
PM Browne is in Guyana to attend the inaugural Agri-Investment Forum and Expo which opens today at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.

What can a Prime Minister do to make people feel safe? The law enforcement is there to assist victims and arrest violators.

Through all the political rhetoric the most important questions are not being addressed. Which in my opinion is. Is Antigua and Barbuda through the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture with the farmers that produce crops that can be exported such as our Antigua Black Pineapple. What other Agro-processing goods does Antigua and Barbuda has to showcase to the rest of the Caribbean. Those to me are pertinent questions to our politicians. I believe we are lacking a little too much in our trade endeavors. Guyana has proposed now for years to give farmers of Caricom land to plant their crops and export it to their country. Has anyone taken up the Guyanese proposal and if not why? Surinam has offered Antigua five thousand coconut plants. Has that ever happened? And if not why? Caricom has been made to be a talk shop now for decades. When are we going to see some action. Inter Caricom trade is simply not possible if we do not put the logistics in place. We don’t even want to support LIAT. We need a shipping line that can take produce from one Island to the other. We rely too much on the USA and their shipping lines. And Covid has shown us how scary that can be. Crowley Shipping Line just decided to pull out of the Caribbean, and we were lost. Luckily enough other shipping lines filled the void. Therefore, I do not expect much coming out of this talk shop once again. And my PM said it to their face. We must work together to secure our food. Guyana, Surinam and Trinidad can solve the problems of the entire Caribbean. Only if they work together. Why can Venezuela provide us with such favorable payment terms for oil, but Trinidad, and now Guyana and Surinam that have an abondance of oil cannot. All Selfishness. No comradery as they want us to believe. Each country for itself.

For Decades, this mere voice in the wilderness has been exhorting GoAB, be it UPP or ABLP to revisit their Strategic Thinking and Direction on the intersection of Education, Sports, Economics, Technology, Environment and the Labour Market! As an economy heavily invested in Tourism, Yachting and the Hospitality industry, there is the undying need to create A Centre of Excellence in the Sector!
Why must Europeans be always at the forefront of our development! Why are we lacking in Creative & Strategic Thinking! The Atlantic Ocean and The Caribbean Sea are the incubators for the creation and development of our Pearls if we could only see beyond “the Beach is just the beginning!”
Antigua and Barbuda, including Redonda is blessed with one of the Largest Exclusive Economic Zones in the Eastern Caribbean. Why are we not leveraging this advantage to our eternal benefit! We do not need an “ARMY”! The Constitution does not! We need a Coast Guard, similar to Costa Rica and armed to the teeth to patrol and protect our economic, environmental, safety and security interests!
Once again, Mr. Minister of Education, Combine ABHTI, ABIIT and ASC! Call it whatever you wish but do a merger and create also a School of Faculty for Aviation and Marine Engineering!
Yes Sir Mr. Prime Minister, with the Strategic Transformation of the Army to Coast Guard and the Integration of the Tertiary Institutions, GoAB and the People of African Descent who are being plagued by youth societal issues will have an opportunity to develop A Cadet Corps to channel the idle hands and those creative and productive students, who wish, into useful educational and labour force pathways to the Hospitality, Tourism, Yachting, Fishing and Transportation – Aviation and Shipping Sectors!
Why is Antigua and Barbuda and for this matter, the English Speaking Caribbean SIDS and Africa being shut out of Global Development! In its heyday ADOMS was second only to Panama in the Caribbean! Yet we did not create a shipping company or produce a single mariner for the ships registered in our nation! Time to change that Paradigm! Carnival is knocking according to the Minister of Tourism! Will we be up to the Challenge for The High end Technical Jobs or just the hewers of wood, drawers of water and bed chambers as the former UPP Minister of Health demonstrated at the Quay and the Bus Enterprise! Take a serious look at Eastern Caribbean, Agriculture, Shipping and Ferry Services not to mention Aviation!

Today we People of African Descent in these Caribbean SIDS continue as mere observers and objects, see the same pattern of seizure (US, British, EU and NATO Sanctions and Seizures) as we continue merrily along seeking handouts with nary a peep!
