Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne has praised the nation’s healthcare and essential services workers for their dedication to duty and country during the fight against the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus.
“The last four months have been the most challenging months for us as a nation and more so for employees, especially those who are at the forefront of the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus. Our Healthcare workers deserve our thanks and gratitude for the sacrifices they are making to ensure that our people are protected from the coronavirus,” the Prime Minister said.
He outlined that while his government is playing its part in putting in place measures to ensure the protection of workers livelihoods and wellbeing, workers in general must play a part in job protection and productivity.
He pointed out that while healthcare workers, who have placed themselves at the forefront of the battlefield against COVID-19, public sector workers and all other workers must join forces to restart the economy and ensure that all sectors, including the soon to be reopened tourism sector, contribute to the growth of the economy.
“If we sit back and wait for COVID-19 to die a natural death our economy will suffer the same faith. COVID-19 has already profoundly affected our economy – together we must stop this trend. Your government wants our economy to move ahead and build upon the last few years of growth and prosperity. Workers have played their role in the successes of our nation in the past – you are called upon to rise to the occasion in this time of crisis,” the Prime Minister said.
“We must continue to sing the praises of our healthcare workers and other essential workers to include our police and army. Without their efforts we would not be in the position we are where we can say that we have somewhat curtailed the spread of the virus. Happy Labour Day to them and all workers and we implore them to stay safe.” Prime Minister said.
