Redonda Restoration Efforts Spotlighted During Prime Minister’s First Visit

The Honourable Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, Chief of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, visited Redonda for the first time yesterday, exploring the island’s ongoing conservation efforts and plans for its future as a protected area.

Hosted by the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG), the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the progress made in restoring Redonda’s ecosystem. The delegation observed firsthand the island’s transformation, including efforts to preserve its unique wildlife and habitat. Redonda, a critical part of Antigua and Barbuda’s conservation strategy, is being developed as a key feature of the Redonda Ecosystem Reserve.

The EAG team highlighted their commitment to partnership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Defence Force. With support from these stakeholders, the group aims to achieve ambitious conservation goals, aligning with the global “30 by 30” initiative, which seeks to protect 30% of the world’s land and ocean areas by 2030.

The visit underscored the shared vision for Redonda as a symbol of successful, locally-led conservation efforts. The EAG expressed excitement about the island’s potential as a model for sustainability and a beacon for marine and terrestrial protection.

Prime Minister Browne’s engagement reflects the government’s dedication to advancing environmental stewardship in Antigua and Barbuda. Brigadier Benjamin’s presence further highlighted the Defence Force’s role in safeguarding the nation’s natural heritage.

The Redonda Ecosystem Reserve is set to become a cornerstone of the nation’s environmental strategy, blending ecological restoration with long-term protection efforts. With continued collaboration, Redonda promises to be a lasting legacy for future generations.

  1. An amazing environmental clean-up job by the EAG. I’ve followed the work that this group has achieved in Rendoda, from removing the vermin to the restoration of the former habitat.

The whole Environmental Awareness Group deserves some sort of global recognition for this island transformation.

Hopefully, they’ll go on to restore similar places.

    GREAT WORK 👏🏾

  2. The 30 by 30 Initiative; as in, by 2030 as all of these [agendas] coincide.
So the plan becomes clearer. We knew of REDONDA and its value to Our Nation, since, the #Birds and the #Bird_Guana Fertilizer export business.

Great job by the EAG and its group of volunteers!

The government should do a comprehensive survey to see how to expand the island with man made reefs. They can start utilizing those old vehicles now becoming an eyesore around the island.

  3. Congratulations to the team behind the Redonda restoration project This is a big win for environmental preservation, and with the support of the government, we can look forward to a more sustainable future for this beautiful island

  4. @Zackie…allegedly, REDONDA might already be under the control, of a Californian who’s a Philanthropist.

The one Dave Ray, that blogs here on ANR (I think, that this is the one and same, and I stand corrected) has some knowledge, as to who said Philanthropist is. Myself (Vere Edwards) and him had a brief debate on Colin Edwards Facebook Page several years ago, during the Independence Celebrations.

So, can Mr. Dave Ray, enlightened us, as to who might be in control of this piece, of the Nation’s assets? You seem to be well informed on such.

  5. @Ras.
You can rest assure that’s it’s a forgone conclusion that Redondo has already been sold.
That’s why you would never see me make any statement about Redondo being a part of Antigua and Barbara.

And if you read between the lines,we can easily see that this Government has already sold out the rock, because, if they already sold out all the little islands that host these exclusive hotels, then what’s the profit in keeping Redondo?

Yep, so Redondo is gone already to some rich white man somewhere.

  6. @Islanman26…ah wah ah guarne?

You’ve read some of my thoughts, on Redonda, and in some ways I do understand some of the feelings of the Monsterratians about Redonda being in their backyard versus Antigua.

The Nation of Antigua, Barbuda and REDONDA and all of its Nautical miles, airspace and landmasses is this Sovereign Nation set forth, by [whatever] treaties and charters through [whichever] conventions.

Now, except for Redonda and I stand to be corrected, all other islands private or not are already a part of the Sovereign Nation, of Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA. Therefore, they do not determine the Nation’s AIRSPACE nor NAUTICAL MILES which, as is now being admitted are very important in this 30/30 globalist agenda to preserve the sea space (nautical miles) and land mass (the reason why all of these CIPers and other conglomerates (Jumby Bay, the Chinese, the Serians/Lebanese, PLH etc) have all being acquiring a portion of our public lands for their future generations.

If REDONDA was sold to a private entity or individual, there should be repercussions; and, in my opinion can amount to TREASON.
Selling REDONDA is like selling the whole of BARBUDA or ANTIGUA to one individual or entity. Again, even if Redonda is just a big rock, it’s still classified as an Island. Therefore the Nation’s Nautical miles and Airspace is determined by the Island of Antigua, the Island of Barbuda and the Island of REDONDA.

I know it’s not of interest to most, but to long, long, long term investors like China are not this naive. Japan would surely like to own REDONDA, and they wouldn’t have to rely on Antigua & Barbuda for its support on WHALING.

REDONDA is not just an insignificant #Piece_Of_Rock!
