PM Browne Hints at Election Timing: “It’s Coming Soon”
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has signaled that general elections may not be far off, telling a crowd of Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) supporters on Sunday night that the people appear more ready for the polls than he is.
Addressing a large gathering in St. George, Browne said, “This is perhaps the first time that the people ready for general elections before the Prime Minister ready to call it.” While he did not announce a date, the statement added to growing speculation that the country could head to the polls earlier than expected.
“We’re watching that space carefully,” he added. “And when the time comes, trust me, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth within the UPP.”
Browne, who has led the ABLP since 2012 and has overseen successive electoral victories, made it clear that the decision will be strategic. “Somebody asked me if I’m going to wait to catch them with their pants down. I said to them—right now the pants always down,” he said to loud applause.
The Prime Minister used the rally not only to energize the party’s base but also to reaffirm his confidence in the ABLP’s renewed team, describing it as “more vibrant than it has been even since before 2014.” He pointed to the emergence of younger candidates and the party’s internal reform process following the 2023 general elections.
He also assured supporters that his administration remains focused on resolving national issues—including roads, water supply, healthcare, and economic expansion—and insisted that the Labour Party had “earned” another term in office.
As the crowd chanted and waved red flags, Browne closed his remarks with a call for unity and readiness: “Let us ensure that come the next elections, it will be a resounding victory for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.”

He really does care to retain his seat because he’s already afraid to venture outside of Antigua. If he fails to go to them, the FEDS will surely go to him.

I have to be honest, the UPP does not seem to have the momentum they had last election and I am not impressed with what I am seeing presently, we need to send Gaston to the political graveyard for him to stop selling out the lands to white people for peppercorn prices
The UPP is light years away from becoming united. The people of Antigua deserve better opposition representation in parliament. We need a united opposition party ready to take the reins of government. I don’t really know what is the answer to this right now. In the recent public meeting held by the UPP former PM Spencer called for unity in his party. Trevor walker in a recent radio interview called for the UPP to take a page out of the BPM. Noticeably Sugy , Serpent and Richard Lewis- 3 of the sitting UPP MPs did not show up. By the way I can boldly say if an election to be called right now all three will definitely loose their seats and pay cheques .
