Prime Minister Gaston Browne has dismissed the appointment of Pearl Quinn as an Opposition Senator, criticizing her qualifications and suitability for the role.

Speaking on Pointe FM on Saturday, Browne questioned the rationale behind Quinn’s selection, contrasting her professional background with that of other political appointees.

“Pearl has no qualifications whatsoever, zilch,” Browne said, claiming her highest position at First Caribbean International Bank (FCIB) was that of a loans officer.

He accused the United Progressive Party (UPP) of falsely presenting Quinn as a financial expert and alleged she had left the bank under unfavorable circumstances.

“At one point, they were trying to get rid of Pearl, and Pearl jumped before she got pushed, because she was just dead stock within the bank,” Browne remarked.

The Prime Minister compared Quinn to newly appointed Senator Lamin Newton, highlighting Newton’s academic achievements and development within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).

Browne noted that Newton is on the verge of completing his degree, which will soon add academic credentials to his name. “Lamin has developed himself,” Browne stated. “He will have letters behind his name at the end of the semester.”

Browne further criticized Quinn’s previous attempts to discuss financial issues, recalling past exchanges in which he challenged her credentials. “At one point, they put a shadow at me,” he said.

“I told her, ‘Sweetheart, you’re not in my class. Go and educate yourself.’”

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of qualifications and experience, particularly in roles that require policy-making and governance expertise.

Reflecting on his own educational journey, Browne mentioned earning his master’s degree while in government, as part of his preparation to serve as Finance Minister.

“I wanted to make sure I had the kind of competence needed for the role,” he explained. He contrasted his performance as Finance Minister with that of his predecessor, asserting that his leadership had delivered better results for the country.

Quinn-Williams replaces Shawn Nicholas in the senate on the opposition benches.

  1. Ok! So common sense is esoteric, just like how the ALP pay it’s acolyte and supporters to celebrate Lester bird as the most brilliant, we are seeing the same superior logics narrative used to prop up Gaston brown, and he was never qualified to walk in Lennox Weston foot step when he was in government. In fact Lennox had to dumb down himself so.gaston could look like finance intelligence material.

  2. Gaston “quarter idiot” Browne, you should sit and lap your tail and hope the walls of Swiss American Bank don’t decide to talk one of these days.
You think is you alone have file, you might be surprised. A word to the wise is sufficient.
Oh, also Mr. Fisher and Mr. Greaves says howdy.

  3. Where did Gaston Browne get his masters degree from, was it ever established that he has undergraduate qualifications?

  4. Wow
    Wow
Always saying something negative about some body.
You don’t care for pearl cause she gonna stick in your craw, and get on your case. Eh !
You are one of the most annoying
    Person in antgua ,
Sometimes you just need to shut up!🤔

  5. Politics or no politics, she has no qualifications. No one can dispute the facts. Don’t kill the messenger. Absorb and understand the message. We need to stop this blind loyalty to political parties regardless of which one it is. We need to start thinking for ourselves. If you disagree with a statement then prove it wrong with facts or shut to hell up.

  6. Produce your transcript so that the country can see that your actually earned the degrees that you say have and not bought.

  7. This guy has taken lunacy to a new realm. If tomorrow Mrs.
Williams gets too deep under his skin, he’d be willing to buy her out and heap tons of accolades her way. To all his stooges who thinks that he is fit to lead, just browse through ‘The Thirteen Sins Of Gaston Browne Against The Antigua Labour Party ‘ by Lionel Hurst. I’m sorry for his mental status but pleading insanity isn’t going to be a defense when Odebretch comes to his door, and for sure, it will.

  8. Good going Pearl.

Everyone remember you for how you handled Cutie at the C.C.J. forum.

Everyone remember Lamin for the questions he could not answer from Yvonne (3 questions) when he was the ‘Shadow Agriculture Minister’ with the U.P.P.

Ignore the idiot. According to him, he did not even know what was going on in a Ministry he was head for. He tried throwing Lennox Weston under the bus but even Stevie Wonder could see what a waste the idiot is.

  9. Odebretch
    Hurry up and come please.
We need and end to this lunatic
    And Risperdal psychotic individual…
    Help us lord!!

  10. GASTON LYMAN BROWNE,YOU ARE NOT A BANKER.YOU WERE NEVER A BANKER.YOU WORKED FOR A LAUNDROMAT OF A BANK. THEY WERE VERY GOOD AT CLEANING DIRTY LAUNDRY.WHAT HAS BECOME OF THAT LAUNDRY AND ITS WORKERS.BY THE WAY,A WAY STUART-YOUNG GARNE?

  11. Pearl was promoted by the UPP as a financial expert; I had an obligation as someone who took an oath to stand on the truth without fear or favour to expose the lie.

My statement that she has no university degree and that her highest professional attainment was at the level of a loans officer is factual, refuting the UPP propaganda. If the UPP had not lied about her capacity, it would not have created the opening to expose her lack of capacity.

I then compared the effort of Sen Lamming Newton and others in the ABLP, who availed themselves to pursue higher education at UWI Five Islands to take up higher office.

Pearl, Pringle, Serpent, Johnathan and others in the UPP leadership were offered scholarships to UWI Five Islands, if they so desire to build in capacity to enhance their contribution to the governance of our country.

While you shoot the messenger, kindly digest the message, recognizing that there is a direct correlation between education & training and performance.

Offering capacity building to our political opponents is an act of benevolence to improve the governance of our country.

    Blessings,

  12. Again citizens of Antigua & Barbuda, this is what’s known in global political circles as “dead cat narratives”.

Here we have Prime Minister Browne focusing once more on the so-called tumult within the UPP, when there’s a plethora of other more important issues in the country he should be focusing on.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is just another deflectionary tactic, while the vast majority of Antiguans pockets are still empty; with vacant bank accounts and living in poor housing stock.

He’s going after the UPP because a one-party state is his main goal (but dare not admit this), hence the ongoing – and unprecedented -recruitment of former UPP members.

We haven’t seen NOTHING yet – buckle up folks!

    Blessings … 😁
