PM Browne Compares ABLP Achievements to UPP’s ‘Lost Decade’ in Anniversary Address

10

Prime Minister Gaston Browne marked the 10th anniversary of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) coming to power with an address to the nation, highlighting the country’s progress under his administration.

Browne compared the current state of Antigua and Barbuda to the period under the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) administration, which he described as a “lost decade.”

He cited severe economic downturns, high unemployment, significant business closures, unsustainable national debt, and rampant crime, including rapes and homicides, as major issues during the UPP’s tenure.

He emphasized the government’s default on an IMF loan, leading to an inability to pay for essential services like fuel, electricity, and water, resulting in over $200 million in unpaid debts.

Notable failed projects, such as the unfinished car park in St. John’s, the Wadadli power plant, and the Half Moon Bay acquisition, were highlighted as symbols of corruption and incompetence.

Browne also mentioned the UPP’s reliance on over $2 billion in borrowings and the IMF, which strained public services and the economy.

Browne credited the ABLP for transforming the economic landscape and improving the nation’s fortunes over the past decade.

He thanked the people of Antigua and Barbuda for their trust and support, acknowledging the progress made in rebuilding and rejuvenating the country.

  1. Gaston must be a lunatic…….’rampant crime’, ‘leading to an inability to pay essential services’,
‘inability to pay loans’, when the UPP left so much money that you guys could have repaid the IMF- GASTON WA MEK U SO DAM LIE.
For over 10 years suppliers cannot be paid and this never ever happened under the UPP’s tenure.
THERE IS NO INFRASTUCTURE IN THE COUNTRY. EVERYTHING IS FALLING DOWN FOR LACK OF MAINTENANCE BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS BROKE.
ANTIGUA HAS NEVER BEEN THIS BAD PRIOR TO YOUR TAKEOVER OF THE GOVERNMENT!
    WHAT A TING!

  2. However Prime Minister Browne, the so-called “lost 10 years” of UPP governance doesn’t even a “come close or compare to the WASTEFUL 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism.

And you have the gall to talk about a “lost decade?”

What about almost half-a-decade of ABLP’S inactions?

YOU THINK ANTIGUANS HAVE SHORT MEMORIES?

Remember Gassssston, you can only hoodwink and blindside the ABLP sycophants, acolytes and your Gastonites.

Stop insulting the intelligence of the autochthonous and indigenous Antiguans.

MORE ACTIONS AND LESS CHAT …

  3. ABLP please keep highlighting UPP’S 10 years, and we’ll keep reminding you that in YOUR 40-odd years of governance, you could have:

    1. Strengthened our police force.

    2. Kept the Holberton Hospital open to run along our other main Hospital

    3. Created a much needed private sector to halt the drain and wastage from the public sector

    4. Resolved the inconsistencies of payment of wages, pensions and overtime

    5. The eyesore that’s called St John’s – need I say more?

    6. 40 years to have an up and running water supply system

    7. Stopping the wanton damage from construction of our island and mangroves

    8. Antigua’s banking institutions and systems still needs much improvements

    9. In ABLP’S eyes, transparency and the Freedom of Information Act is a no-go area. Why?

    10. A youth employment initiative should have been in place years ago, and the country would be seeing the benefits today, instead of rising youth violence and crimes

And if any of you Gastonites, acolytes and ABLP sycophants need another 10 (or even 40 for each year of Birdism and Browneism) issues with this WOEFUL government, just let Brixtonian know?

Me ready for all a unna … PLEASE!

  4. @ BRIXTONIAN

Why don’t you stop your FOOLISHNESS and clear your mind of the garbage. ABLP built Antigua Barbuda and still continuing along that trend. Open your mind BRIXTONIAN and take your DUNCE head out of the sand. ABLP will govern ANTIGUA BARBUDA forever.

When you were a member of ABLP you did not get what you wanted , so you jumped ship and ended up with losers in the UPP. You never supported Jamale Pringle and now you are KISSING His AR####SE. You are a disgrace to ANR. You hang your mouth where the soup is dropping. Hope you will come to grips with yourself and stop your garbage.
    BRIXTONIAN the LOSER.

Prime Minister Gaston Gaston Browne, best in the Caribbean. BIG UP to the world BOSS

  5. Again, as always when I mention some brilliant and valid points of why the governance of the ABLP is dysfunctional the Gastonites, acolytes and ABLP sycophants CANNOT respond in kind (except for Dave Ray. Respect👍🏾).

    @ SHARL, here’s a challenge for you:

Why not respond to what I’ve ACTUALLY highlighted about the ABLP’S shortcomings?

YOU CAN DO IT SHARL 😁

  6. Why can’t he highlight his “achievements” without stating UPP’s failings in the same line? Is he that insecure, or is he like Big Bro Trump? Must bring down the other side to build his side?

Reporter: PM Browne, how has your Administration performed during the last 10 years?

PM Browne: We have done better in our first 5 years than the UPP in their ten years.

And the reporter to tell him to his face that that is a lie has not left school as yet.

  7. Those ten lost years, felt more like the DARK AGES. IMF was running the country. Begging on the street was RAMPANT. Even the President of the Senate once said that, under Labour Party she used to have two and three jobs, but now under UPP she hardly could get work. Which is true, because the Offshore Financial Sector and the Gaming Industry had closed down. And then they offered Stanford as a sacrificial lamb to the USA, not thinking of what that would mean for the country’s economy. And when it hit them home they didn’t know what to do. Social Security didn’t get all the contributions they used to. APUA didn’t get all the revenue they used to get from the Stanford companies. And everything just imploded. Lovell was out of his depth and didn’t know what to do, but to just accept and follow the IMF prescription. And then he said, well it is our own NEST plan. I tried helping them, but they wouldn’t listen to suggestions from locals like me. The IMF and World Bank boys were more clever then us. And wearing ARMANI clothes and dining with the girls was Lovell’s claim to fame. Didn’t even had time for the cry of the people of his constituency. That is why he was he first that was let go in the 2014 election.
Thank God for Gaston Browne. A man with a brain so big, he is so advanced in his thinking that I believe he is years ahead before his time. Does anyone really understand what SIDS meant for us. And what it means to have the Centre of Excellence already established right before the end of the conference. Not years later. That is smart. Very smart. And we will reap the benefits from it for decades to come. NEXT LEVEL DEVELOPMENT. No one in the UPP is ready for this. They don’t even grasp what it means.

  8. Well, well.
If that’s not the pot calling the kettle black, I don’t know what is!
    Self praise indeed!!🤔🫤

  9. @ Less We Forget, 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism seems like an eternity … just saying sup!

  10. Grabston browne the worst prime minister in Antigua history when i say worst i mean worst, antiguans please for God sake open your eyes and let Antigua breath again get rid of the greedy monster that only love himself
